EVENT PREP — THE DOWNTIME MATTERS TOO
When people think about 24 Hours of Heroes, they picture the work, the stories, the effort, the hours.
But every host knows there’s another part of the event that matters just as much: the downtime.

The tents, the chairs, the quiet moments between hours.
The place where volunteers reset, athletes breathe, and the room regroups before the next story is read.
It’s not glamorous, but it’s essential and it’s part of what makes the event run smoothly across every site.

As planning begins, hosts start thinking about those spaces early.
Where people will rest.
Where transitions happen.
Where the community settles for a moment before stepping back in.

Event prep isn’t just about the work.
It’s about the downtime that keeps the 24 hours moving.

HERO SPOTLIGHT — LCPL ANDREW JONES

This week we honour Lance Corporal Andrew Jones, a soldier remembered for his loyalty, reliability, and dedication to serving his country.

Andrew served as a cook with the 9th Force Support Battalion, deploying to East Timor and later Afghanistan. Quiet, skilled, and always willing to put his hand up, he was the kind of teammate every soldier trusted. He loved his job, he loved his mates, and he carried himself with a calm professionalism that left an impact on everyone around him.

He was on his first deployment to Afghanistan when he was tragically killed in action on 30 May 2011. He leaves behind his parents, siblings, and girlfriend, and a legacy of service, leadership, and character.

When his story is read in the room, the effort that follows carries his name.
We honour LCPL Andrew Jones.
We honour his service.
And we keep his story alive through the work.

EVENT PREP — SPONSOR SUPPORT

Since the beginning of our multi‑site hosts, Concept2 has been part of the backbone of 24 Hours of Heroes. Their support has helped shape the event across Australia and New Zealand — steady, reliable, and committed to the purpose behind the 24 hours.

Every year, as planning begins, Concept2 is one of the first brands to stand behind the mission. Their backing strengthens the event, supports the communities involved, and helps carry the stories we honour.

Sponsors don’t just add logos.
They help build the foundation that makes the event possible.

HERO SPOTLIGHT — LCPL LUKE GAVIN

Every hour of 24 Hours of Heroes begins with a story, and this week we honour Lance Corporal Luke Gavin — a soldier remembered for his professionalism, loyalty, and devotion to both his mates and his family.

Luke served with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, completing multiple deployments across East Timor and Afghanistan. He was known for his attitude, his specialist skills, and the way he lifted the people around him. A husband, a father, a leader and a man whose impact reached far beyond his role.

When his story is read in the room, the energy shifts.
Athletes stand a little taller.
The purpose behind the hour becomes clearer.
And the effort that follows carries his name.

We honour LCPL Gavin.
We honour his service.
And we keep his story in the room.

FRIDAY HYPE — THE EARLY BUILD

It’s still a long way to April, but that’s exactly where the hype starts — slow, steady, and deliberate.
This is the phase where the idea of 24 Hours of Heroes begins to surface again in conversations, planning chats, and coach discussions. Nothing loud yet. Just the early spark.

The date is set.
The purpose is clear.
And the groundwork for the 24 hours starts now.

This is the kind of hype that grows over months — the kind that builds a stronger event, a stronger community, and a stronger connection to the stories we honour.

April is far away.
But the momentum begins today.

EVENT PREP — SAVE THE DATE

The first step in preparing for 24 Hours of Heroes is simple: lock in the date.

April 17/18.

That’s when the 24 hours return — the briefings, the stories, the community, and the purpose behind every hour. Over the coming weeks, gyms will put their hands up, details will roll out, and the full event structure will take shape. But the date is set, and the countdown starts now.

Gym registrations open early November!

Mark it.
Share it.
Hold the weekend.

April 17/18 — the 24 hours are coming.

HERO SPOTLIGHT — ADDISON & SPEARS
Every hour of 24 Hours of Heroes begins with a story, and this one carries weight.
Senior Constables Peter John Addison and Robert Bruce Spears were two police officers who stepped into a domestic‑violence call in 1995 and never walked back out. Their actions, courage, and final decisions led to major reforms that still protect officers today.

Two men.
Two families.
One moment that changed policing in Australia.

Across host gyms this year, their story was read before the workout began — a quiet pause where the room shifted, athletes listened, and the purpose behind the hour landed. It’s the part of the event that matters most: remembering who the effort is for.

We honour Addison.
We honour Spears.
And we keep their story in the room.

FRIDAY HYPE — THE MOMENT THE ROOM GOES QUIET
Before every hour begins, there’s a moment that hits differently.
The room settles, athletes step in closer, and the bio of the fallen service man or woman is read. It’s the point where the noise drops and the purpose of the next hour lands.

You hear their name.
You hear their story.
And suddenly the workout isn’t just a workout, it’s a tribute.

Across Australia and New Zealand, every host gym shared that same moment. Different voices, different rooms, same respect. It’s the anchor of the event, the reset before the effort, and the reminder of why everyone is there.

That’s the Friday hype.
The quiet before the work.

EVENT PREP — FUNDRAISING MOMENTUM
In the lead‑up to 24 Hours of Heroes, every host gym starts building fundraising momentum. It’s one of the most important parts of the event, the effort that happens before anyone steps onto the floor.

Gyms set targets, teams start sharing their pages, local businesses jump in, and the community begins to rally behind the cause. You can feel the shift when it starts: conversations at the desk, members asking how to get involved, sponsors offering support, and friendly competition pushing the numbers higher.

Fundraising is part of the prep.
It shapes the energy of the event.
And it connects every gym across Australia and New Zealand to the purpose behind the 24 hours.

HERO SPOTLIGHT — BRAD
Private Bradley Wayne Carr’s story sits at the heart of why 24 Hours of Heroes exists. A soldier, an athlete, a teammate, and someone who gave everything he had to the people around him. His life held moments of achievement, struggle, service, and passion — all reflected in the workout that carries his name.

Seven rounds for the year he joined the ADF.
11.11.84 for his birthday.
Single‑leg squats for his inline skating.
Push‑ups and double‑unders for the training he loved.
A 2000m row for the year he competed at the X Games.

Across host gyms this year, Brad’s story was told through effort — steady, honest, and meaningful.

We honour Brad.
We honour his service.
And we keep his story in the room.
