We have something at Katoomba Guides that we're particularly proud of.

Amazing Leaders. 💙

Creative. Imaginative. Caring. Funny. Inclusive.

They don't simply ask:

“What activity should we do this week?”

They ask:

“What is something you would love to do?”

They know that different girls engage differently.

They know when to encourage, when to help, when to adapt and when to stand back and let a girl discover that she can do it herself.

That's what brings Katoomba Guides to life.

Can a girl love adventures AND animals?

Obviously.

Harry Potter and hiking?

Absolutely.

Cooking and camping?

Why not?

Parties and community service?

Of course.

Girls don't fit into one little box.

Neither does Katoomba Guides.

We give our girls LOTS of different experiences because the point isn't deciding what a girl should be interested in.

It's giving her enough opportunities to discover what she actually loves.

Between 10 and 14, friendship can feel like EVERYTHING.

And when friendships at school aren't going well, it can feel as though there's nowhere else to go.

But school doesn't have to be her whole social world.

Guides gives girls another circle.

Different schools.

Different ages.

Different personalities.

A fresh start.

Another opportunity to find a friend.

Another place to belong.

For some girls, that second circle can make an enormous difference. 💙

We are SMALL BUT MIGHTY. 💙

And being a small Guide unit has some pretty wonderful advantages.

Our Leaders know the girls.

We know who's bursting to take charge.

Who needs some encouragement.

Who needs five minutes before joining in.

Who has a brilliant idea.

Who needs a friend.

And who is about to ask Krystal a question for approximately the 47th time that afternoon. 😂

Girls don't disappear into the crowd here.

They're known.

And we think that matters.

If you remember Guides from 20 or 30 years ago, you might be surprised by what we're up to now.

Harry Potter themed camps.

Cooking lessons.

Makeup lessons.

Self-defence.

Parties.

Creative challenges.

Community activities.

Camping.

Badges.

Campfires.

And yes, we still know a thing or two about knots. 😉

Guiding has evolved.

At Katoomba Guides, our incredibly creative Leaders take the traditions and values of Guiding and reinvent them for the girls growing up today.

Same heart.

New generation. 💙

Some girls find their friendship group easily.

Others can feel a little like a square peg in a round hole.

Maybe she's quiet. Maybe she's quirky. Maybe she's ADHD or autistic. Maybe she has enormous interests, a big personality, or takes a little longer to feel comfortable.

Maybe she simply hasn't found her people yet.

Katoomba Guides is small, friendly and proudly welcoming.

Why We Do This 💛

Girl Guides isn’t just an activity.

From “I Can’t” to “Watch Me” 💥

We hear it all the time:

“I can’t.”

Then…

They try
They wobble
They try again

And suddenly:

“Watch me.”

That shift?
That’s everything.

Someone trying again
A quiet “you can do it”

These are the moments that build who they become.

A Typical Girl Guides Night… 😂

You think it’ll be calm.

Then:

A game starts
Rules change
Everyone is laughing

And somehow…
