A parent’s perspective on training at Nakama
Andy came to Nakama looking to get back into BJJ himself and to get his son Samson involved in it too.
After training at the club for a while and bringing Samson along, Andy eventually took on a role as one of our kids coaches where he now does an amazing job helping guide the next generation coming through Nakama.
We caught up with Andy to chat about his experience at the club, training alongside his son and some of the benefits he’s seen BJJ have on Samson both on and off the mats.
For us, the kids program has always been about more than just learning Jiu Jitsu. Building confidence, perseverance and giving the kids a place where they feel supported and part of a team is just as important.

William Luu always asking those important questions and making me think haha. Tried to relate it back to my own experience as well as the questions the team ask me on the daily about their own journeys.
Not everyone’s experience and progress will be the same. The belt journey is never linear.
Well done again to everyone that comes in, especially in the winter. Progress never stops and by continuing to train, we continue to enjoy the art, evolve and improve. BJJ has no finish line.

Congratulations to all of our students on your achievements. We’re incredibly proud of every one of you.
Effort, confidence, respect and developing a wide range of skills are what we want every child to take away from training. We want every child to feel like they belong, have a purpose and know they’re part of something bigger than themselves.

Kids Grading Day at Nakama BJJ
