If Comms were on notice for their blunder last week, they’re likely to be stood down this week with such delays in getting the teams out.

The 1s return to Princes Highway Reserve to pad up and chase down St. Pauls Oakleigh’s first innings total of 286. The Magoos are back at home against Alphington with some solid inclusions, largely thanks to the 3s having a bye round, and the Vets are scheduled to liberally apply the Deep Heat tomorrow, up against Bulleen at Timber Ridge Reserve.

Of course, this all rests on the shoulders of the weather gods. The forecast isn’t great.

Yeah, yeah, alright. Reposting because of a clerical error. Comms have been advised they are on notice.

Pack a picnic peeps - we’re on the road tomorrow.

The 1s head down to Princes Highway Reserve to take on St. Pauls Oakleigh. How good is it seeing Squid back in the fold?! The Magoos are out at Knox Park against Knox Churches, bolstered by some of our in form 3s. Speaking of the 3s, they take on Manningham at Rieschiecks Reserve with some of our junior (and future senior) champions named.

And boy oh boy our boys are buoyant across the local inner east parks over the weekend.

Juniors are the lifeblood of our club. Not only do we relish in their joy and development in playing team sport, but also the very fact they bring families together - families that end up as Deener Army. This season we proudly host nine junior teams and much of that success can be attributed to a few special people that we are lucky to have with us at Hays. Pauline - you are a machine.

Support these kids by watching their games. Introduce yourselves and tell them how proud you are seeing them in the yellow and green, then relish in the big grins that come across their faces as they take a catch, hit the top of off or find the boundary.

Feel the feels.

Round 1 done and dusted… and how good is it to be back at Hays with the sun shining, surrounded by Deener family? Order is restored.

The 1s fell achingly close to toppling Trinity Willison. Dagger claimed the openers, then took a blinder, only to be usurped by Mike’s ridiculous left handed boundary riding snaffle. Catch of the year in Round 1. Hats off to Roo - thrown the wherry (white cherry) and claimed 4 scalps. Backed it up with a solid innings of 37 with Mike (47) setting up a platform for us to work from. Seels Snr was in vintage touch (22 at the death) and was ever so close to bringing us home.

The Magoos had a tough road trip. Great signs from our youngsters in Asher Siddiqui (3/42) and Archie Egan (22*) though. Future of the club.

The 3s keep doing what they do best - win. Ravi laying claim to most consistent with an effortless 75 not and Manoj with a handy 3/25 as they made it an early finish against AYC.

Those wily Vets know how to win too. Nick Walker can’t get out, and the debutants and rookies were on fire. Makes you want to get old.

The juniors are also firing on all cylinders. We’re fielding nearly double the junior teams from last year. Oversized, untucked shirts never looked so cute. Yellow and green is the dream.

…and we’re back!

Typical Melbourne had the rain gods hampering season kick off last week but we are at the ready for tomorrow with the First XI at the home of cricket against Trinity Willison. The Magoos will be down Cranbourne way against the South Eastern Dreamers. The 3s are also at Hays so we a full compliment on north and south ovals.

As an aside, how good is seeing a double Seeley on the sheet?! Buckets galore.

🚨 Skipper alert 🚨 2026-27 sees the return of Akash Soeny as our 1st XI captain. There’s a changing of the guard in the Magoos with the people’s man Rhys Ellis taking on the leadership for the first time. And the old adage ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ rings true seeing Alex Thomson continuing his successful tenure as captains of the 3s.

Get around them.
