After last weekendās yoga teacher workshops in our beautiful Kingsley yoga room, Iāve been reflecting on the time spent together discussing the Yoga Sutras through the heart-centered lens of Nischala Joy Devi. š«
These arenāt always easy teachings to approach.
The Sutras can feel dense, abstract and sometimes difficult to decipher ā particularly when weāre trying to make sense of ancient wisdom through the lens of our very modern lives.
This is exactly why I think there is so much value in exploring them together.
Through The Secret Power of Yoga, Nischala offers us another way in. Rather than approaching the Sutras as rules to follow or ideals to perfect, she invites us to experience them as gentle reminders of the wisdom already within us.
There were questions. Different interpretations. Moments of recognition. And space for not knowing.
When it comes to exploring yoga philosophy, it isnāt necessarily about arriving at the right interpretation.
Itās about becoming curious enough to sit with these teachings. To question them. To notice what resonates ā and perhaps what doesnāt. And to allow our understanding to evolve through our own practice and lived experience.
For me, this is such an important part of becoming a yoga teacher.
Not knowing all the answers, but learning to listen, observe, question and hold space for another personās experience.
Because before yoga is something we teach, it is something we are invited to live.
I am so grateful for our small group of 4 curious souls š
I would love to know if there a teaching from the Yoga Sutras you find yourself returning to again and again?
