Tên gọi WestNam được ghép từ hai từ "Western Australia" (Tây Úc) và "Vietnam" (Việt Nam), phản ánh nguồn gốc Việt Nam của câu lạc bộ và tiểu bang Tây Úc. Sau gần 40 năm, Westnam United đã phát triển thành một trung tâm thể thao đa văn hóa có tầm ảnh hưởng tại Tây Úc, từ một nhóm nhỏ người Việt yêu bóng đá vào những năm 1980. Câu lạc bộ không chỉ là nơi rèn luyện thể thao, cổ võ bình đẳng giới bằng môn túc cầu mà còn là cầu nối giúp cộng đồng di dân hòa nhập và phát triển tại Úc.
