In our left hemisphere dominant culture (to reference the work on brain lateralisation by Iain McGilchrist – psychiatrist, neuroscientist and philosopher) we can recognise that our cultural status quo is not only unbalanced, but destructive, inequitable and unsustainable.
What to do? What is the evolutionary call arising from our current plight where we are disconnected from nature and each other, where the linear is privileged over natural cycles and “power over” is more important than our common humanity, our interconnectivity?
To awaken from this requires the courage and tenacity to take an alternative stance. Not in conflict, but a solid standing that risks criticism, rejection, being on the fringe and not always accepted or given credibility. An adjunct alongside all the wonders that our scientific materialist culture has to offer. This is evolutionary work. What other choice is there when the status quo, the dominant cultural story is so destructive and separative? The chrysalis has become so uncomfortable that the only option is to break free and transform.
This is the sacred marriage of the solar and the lunar, of doing and being, the masculine and the feminine, the yang and the yin. Holding the unknowable or Mystery alongside our cultural need for certainty. Not as a replacement but as a softening of the hard edges of a culture hell bent on having to know.
Do you feel called to this evolutionary work? It is not necessarily comfortable, but it is noble work. Please connect if you feel to.
