Kyabram A. H. & P. Society Annual Meeting Notice

The Kyabram AH&P Society Inc will be holding its Annual Meeting on Tuesday 12 May at 7:30pm at the Showgrounds Office behind the Stadium. The Annual Meeting will then be followed by a General Meeting.

Check out the beautiful trophy donated by Lindea and Guy Woods in memory of Wally Woods who was a World Champion Saddle Bronc Rider in the 1950’s and 1960’s. The large trophy will be inscribed and kept at the Showgrounds and the smaller one will go home with the winner of the Open Saddle Bronc tomorrow night.

80 YEARS SINCE THE FIRST KYABRAM RODEO

KYABRAM'S FIRST RODEO WAS HELD IN THE KYABRAM RECREATION RESERVE ON MONDAY JUNE 10th 1946.

A decision was made by the general public of Kyabram to hold a Championship Rodeo as the main Victory Day celebration.

The Victory Day Celebrations commenced with a procession to the Recreation Reserve at 9.30 am.
300 entries were received from Australia’s leading buck jumping riders with 100 selected horses and 150 selected mountain bred bullocks assembled.
The Dawes family made their spacious grounds (next to the Reserve) available for a car park at a charge of one shilling.
Admission charges: Adults 3/- ; Children 1/-.
School children wearing Victory Medals were admitted free.
Arrangements were made with the Management of the Kyabram Cannery to supply 600 meals in the up-to-date cannery hostel cafeteria. Meal tickets were available at the No. 1 Snack Bar at the grounds.

Following the all day Rodeo, a large bonfire was lit at 7.30 pm on the corner of Lake Rd and Fenaughty St. where a BBQ was provided.
A HILL-BILLY BALL was then held in the Mechanics’ Hall at 8.30 pm where Championship Sashes were presented during the interval.

Proceeds were devoted to the proposed Kyabram Community Memorial Hospital and the Grounds Improvement Committee.

We are looking for some volunteers to assist at the Kyabram Rodeo on Friday 6 March from 5pm through to about 7:30pm. You will be assisting with parking, gate admission etc with free entry afterwards.
