Friday 11th September

Geelong Race 8 @ 4.45pm - #12 PHAROAH'S DAUGHTER

We head down the Princes Hwy this afternoon as "Cleo" returns to the races. The wet and heavy tracks over the winter have made placing horses extremely difficult. However, she has been racing well on the synthetic track at Ballarat with two third places and a fourth place from three runs. She is down in class and down in the weights today, which is usually a good mix. Unfortunately, we have drawn the widest barrier in 9 of 9. Apprentice jockey Holly Durnan takes the ride providing a very handy 3kg claim, bringing her weight down to just 53.5kgs. Slightly short of her best trip, she is race-fit with no weight on her back, and with a touch of luck in running she looks to be a sneaky each way chance.

MONTJUIC MAGIC Wins Again in Darwin

"Maggie" secured a hat trick of wins this afternoon making it four wins in five races for this talented mare. That takes her to $100,000 earned in just 5 races since she made her NT debut in June. A $20,000 purchase at the Magic Millions Tried Horse Sale in May, she has now returned five times her purchase price in just 4 months.

Well done to Danielle Hirini for a very professional ride. Danielle was only called up to ride the horse a couple of hours before the race. An injury to Jarrod Todd meant that she was a late riding change and she did herself and the horse proud.

Congratulations to Trainer Chloe Baxter and her wonderful Team, securing another raceday double after winning the first race with "Miami Baby".

That's four wins in the last six weeks for ATR in Darwin, as the NT Juggernaut keeps rolling!

Week-End Double Header

We have an exciting week-end ahead with a current Stable Star and our new Rising Star gracing the track over the next two days. We kick off in Darwin this afternoon:

Saturday 5th September

Darwin Race 5 @ 5.20pm - #1 MONTJUIC MAGIC

Our latest NT Stable Star MONTJUIC MAGIC races in Darwin this afternoon. Winner of the $55,000 Top End Classic on Darwin Cup Day, she has 3 wins and a 2nd place from her 4 races in the NT, winning $85,000 since her debut for the stable in June. Back in distance and up in class, she is chasing a hat trick of wins today. Top Darwin jockey Jarrod Todd is in the saddle, so we are in safe hands. With even luck in running, she looks to be a genuine winning chance.

Sunday 6th September

Bendigo Race 4 @ 1.35pm - #13 SALANN

Rising Star SALANN makes her return to the races on Sunday at Bendigo. Twice runner-up at Stakes level in her first campaign, she steps out as a 3yo for the first time tomorrow. In our most heartbreaking moment in racing, she was scratched at the barrier in the $1 million Group 1 Ch*****ne Stakes at Randwick in April. We certainly feel that there is unfinished business with this talented filly.

She has drawn wide, which should suit her running style, and top jockey Daniel Stackhouse takes the ride. With our sights firmly set on the $1.5 million Group 1 Thousand Guineas on Caulfield Cup Day, we are looking to kick off her campaign with a strong run tomorrow.

HELLBERG @ Corowa
Monday 31st August

It’s the final day of winter and we sneak across the border this afternoon for a hit-and-run mission:

Corowa Race 5 @ 4.10pm – #5 HELLBERG

Track specialist HELLBERG returns to his favourite hunting ground today, looking to make it win number four at Corowa. All three of his career wins have come at Corowa, including a track-record performance over today’s 1400m in December last year. His only failure from four starts at the track came on an unsuitable wet surface, so there’s no doubt he saves his best for this circuit.

He has drawn nicely in Barrier 3 of 7 in a small field. Apprentice Alice Kennedy takes the ride, providing a very handy 2kg claim. The firmer the better for HELLBERG, so the only real question mark today is the SOFT 6 surface. We’ll be hoping for a track upgrade as the afternoon progresses.

His first two runs this campaign have been excellent, finishing just 2.1 lengths and 1.7 lengths from the winner over 1200m. He has been crying out for the step up to 1400m and gets that today at a track and distance that we know he loves. Everything points to a big run, and at juicy odds, HELLBERG looks a genuine threat this afternoon.

Darwin Double-Header
Saturday 29th August

After a three week break in the tropical north we return to racing in Darwin this afternoon with two strong chances:

Darwin Race 2 @ 3.17pm - #2 SOUTHAMPTON FLARE

"Jack" had to jump from the car park (Barrier 12) on Darwin Cup Day and struggled to get into the race. However, he ran on well and was only beaten 2.3 lengths. His previous race was a breathtaking run, coming from 15 lengths last at one point to grab an amazing win in the final few strides. Earmuffs come off, which should sharpen him up. He has drawn better today and if he can get away cleanly from the gates, he looks to be a genuine each way chance at juicy odds.

Darwin Race 5 @ 5.12pm - #1 ARIZONA ACTIVIST

"Chex" was the winner of the Lightning Plate on Darwin Cup Day, with an impressive finishing burst. He is unbeaten over 1000m in the NT with two wins from two starts. He meets the Palmerston Sprint 3rd place-getter "Wild Beau" today, and it looks to be a race in two. If the leaders go too hard up front, "Chex" will be stalking the leading pack ready to pounce over the final 200m, as he did on Cup Day. He looks to be a strong each way chance this afternoon.

Best of luck to all of our Owners today.

PONTE ARCOBALENO @ Ballarat

After a quiet couple of weeks we head back to the races this afternoon on the synthetic track at Ballarat:

Ballarat Race 6 @ 4.00pm - #10 PONTE ARCOBALENO

It's been a topsy turvy campaign for PONTE ARCOBALENO. He kicked off with a win and a strong third place before a couple of below par runs. He had excuses last start when he was cramped for room on the rail and couldn't find any clear air. He is such a big horse, he needs plenty of room to work through his gears. He draws wider this afternoon, which should play in his favour. He has a strong record over this track and distance with a second and third place from two attempts. We are looking to get his campaign back on track with a strong performance today.

HELLBERG @ Ballarat Synthetic

Ballarat Synthetic Race 6 @ 2.30pm - #1 HELLBERG

It was a strong first-up effort by HELLBERG, running third in a similar race over this track and distance two weeks ago. Carrying a big weight, he delivered a gutsy performance to hold off the chasing pack and add a 10th minor placing in just 22 starts. It will be a carbon copy this afternoon as he runs over 1200m with Declan Bates in the saddle once again. Unfortunately, he has drawn the widest gate and will have to jump from Barrier 9 of 9. If he can get a bit of luck in running, he looks to be a sneaky each way chance.

PONTE ARCOBALENO @ Pakenham

Our strong start to the season continued last Thursday with an unlucky third place and a close fourth place for PHAROAH'S DAUGHTER and APOLLO RIDGE respectively. We look to continue that positive run with two runners over the next two days starting with:

Pakenham Race 7 @ 3.30pm - #5 PONTE ARCOBALENO

PONTE ARCOBALENO races this afternoon on the Synthetic Track at Pakenham. Forget his last run at Ballarat, where he didn't stay the extra distance (1400m). He is back to his pet distance of 1200m today where has only missed a place once in 6 career races (6-1-3-1). 41-time Group 1 jockey Luke Nolen takes the ride and he has drawn the Premier Barrier in 1 of 10. If he brings his 1200m form from early in the campaign he should be a genuine each way chance.

Thursday Double-Header

Our busy start to the new season continues with two runners in two different states this afternoon:

Gosford Race 5 @ 2.55pm - #4 APOLLO RIDGE

It's been a disappointing start to the campaign for a horse that has been so consistent throughout his career, so we are looking for a bounce back to form today. He races best on GOOD surfaces and he gets back on top of the ground today after two runs on SOFT tracks. Mitchell Bell retains the ride and he has drawn well in Barrier 4 of 7. He has raced over this track and distance once before for a strong second place. A repeat performance would see him as a genuine winning chance in a very open race.

Ballarat Synthetic Race 7 @ 4.00pm - #8 PHAROAH'S DAUGHTER

"Cleo" steps out in trip for the first time in her career as she tackles a BM66 over 2100m. She has been racing like a horse that will appreciate the extra distance, and with plenty of fitness in her legs, now is the time to test her over the longer trip. Ryan Houston takes the ride, she is up in class but down in the weights and has drawn wide in Barrier 9 of 11. If she can relax in the first half of the race and conserve her energy, we know that she has a strong finish. Her last two races at Ballarat have seen her charging home late in the race. If she stays the longer trip, she looks to be a genuine each way chance.
