BACK PAIN…??? 🤔😩

Something I hear a lot of is this:
“My back hurts, so I’m going to stop doing everything.”
or
“I don’t know why it hurts, it just does!”

But doing nothing isn’t always the answer. Gentle stretching can be a great place to start.

Try 5-10 minutes of stretching a day.

Tight hips, especially hip flexors, can affect how your pelvis moves and may place extra demand on your lower back.

If pain is persistent or severe, get it properly assessed!

Spring is here! 🌸☀️ Which means Power Yoga may be back on the foreshore Saturday mornings at 9:30am, weather permitting. 🧘‍♀️

I’ll post the location here on my page on the morning of the class.

🌟 MEET ARLENE! 🌟

Arlene is one of the newer members of our yoga community, and we’re so happy to have her! 🧘‍♀️💛

She says she just feels better and recharged for the week after coming to yoga — which is probably much needed when you run a family day care business and spend your days keeping up with little ones! 😅😂

And her favourite part of class? Marching with her eyes closed! 👀🚶‍♀️

It might sound simple, but it’s actually a great little challenge for balance and body awareness when we take vision out of the equation.

Lovely to have you as part of our yoga community, Arlene! 🥰

🧘‍♀️ I LOVE it when I get visitors from out of town to my yoga classes! 💛

Everyone who walks through the door is equal. It doesn’t matter whether you live locally or are just visiting, whether you’ve been practising yoga for 30 years or you’re completely brand new, young or old — everyone is welcome.

No egos and no judgement.
And that’s what makes our yoga community so special… the PEOPLE! ❤️

🌿 Eva’s Longevity Breakfast Routine 🌿

This morning I sat down with Eva and asked her about her morning routine, and I thought you might enjoy hearing what starts her day:

🍋 Barley water with lemon juice
🍊 An orange first thing
🥣 Porridge with wheat germ, a little All-Bran underneath & a dessert spoon of yeast powder
🍞 Toast — alternating between Vegemite and cheese
🫖 Lemon & ginger tea

At 91 years young and having attended 123 yoga classes, Eva must be doing something (or everything) right! 😄

WHAT IS STRENGTH & STABILITY…?! 🤔🤷‍♀️

Strength and stability often get used interchangeably, but they’re not the same thing!

Strength helps you create and maintain the force needed to hold a position.

Stability is your ability to control that position when movement is introduced or your balance is challenged.

Take these two planks 👇

In the first plank, the challenge is mainly to use your strength to support your body and hold a strong, steady position.

In the second plank, I’ve taken away two points of contact by lifting one arm and the opposite leg. Now my body has to work harder to stay stable and resist rotation while my limbs move.

So the second plank still requires strength — but it also challenges stability, balance, coordination and motor control.

Being strong is important… but being able to control that strength while you move is just as important…… 🙅‍♀️💁‍♀️🙄

💜 The Vinnies girls! 💜

These three also happen to be some of my yoga ladies — and they volunteer at Vinnies. 🥰

Before I even knew they came to yoga, I used to tell people that some of the friendliest and most helpful customer service I’ve experienced in town is at Vinnies.

And I genuinely meant it! I think it’s because the volunteers actually want to be there.

Speaking of Vinnies… I do love a good op shop! 🛍️

Something you may or may not know about me is that I’m almost always wearing op shop clothes. I rarely buy anything new!

So if you ever see me wearing your clothes… thank you! 🤣💜
