Goodbye August πŸ‘‹

We had new equipment this month to play with.
New faces to join πŸ₯°
Big results for check-ins
Lots of signups for Step-tember (record breaking actually)
And of course, plenty of laughs along the way

August was a good one - but September is looking even better πŸ‘€

Introducing: Train the Trainer ❀️‍πŸ”₯

If the AFC stepping crew hits BOTH the step target and the donations target goals, you get to train the trainer (me!)
So if you have ever thought:
'I wonder if Tiff could do..." or "Could Tiff lift X" or maybe "this is the most diabolical thing ever, I wish I could give it to Tiff"
Then this is your chance 😝

Honestly, what could go wrong ? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜…

🎁 THE STEP-TEMBER PRIZES ARE BACK! πŸ‘£

You know I love making Step-tember a little bit of fun, so of course we're bringing the prizes back again this year! πŸ˜‚

There'll be a few different ways you can get involved and have the chance to win throughout the month.

πŸ‘£ Most Steps
I'll be rewarding the person who clocks up the most steps throughout September.

πŸ’™ Top Fundraiser
I'll also have a prize for the person who raises the most money for Cerebral Palsy Alliance. Every donation, big or small, helps make a difference to families living with cerebral palsy.

πŸ‘€ AND... something NEW!
This year I've added a group prize. As a team we will work towards the prize as a team.

I'm keeping that one a secret for just a few more days though... 🀫

4 DAYS UNTIL THE REVEAL!

So if you've been thinking about joining Step-tember, this is your sign!

You'll get the steps, the group chat, the group walks, the fundraising, the laughs, the prizes... and a whole bunch of people doing it alongside you. πŸ’™

Ever wondered what actually happens at an AFC class? πŸ€”

I know walking into somewhere new can feel a little intimidating. In fact, one of the most common things I hear is, "I'd love to come, but I'm just so nervous."

So let me tell you what actually happens...

You arrive and I'll greet you at the door. If it's your first class, I'll introduce you to everyone, show you around and answer any questions you have before we get started.

Once class begins, we will go into a warmup before then explaining every exercise and I'll demo the exercise. If something doesn't quite suit you, that's completely okay! Every exercise can be modified, whether you need a lighter weight, an easier option or just a little extra guidance.

Then we get to work.

Will you sweat? Probably. πŸ˜…

Will you be pushed? Absolutely. The class is at your pace, so you get out of it the effort you put into it.

Will you be expected to keep up with everyone else? Not at all. Everyone works at their own level.

And somewhere in between all of that, there'll be laughs, jokes, maybe some complaining about life but always plenty of encouragement with a fantastic group of people.

Then, before you know it, 30 minutes is up.

You'll leave feeling proud of yourself, probably a little sweaty and wondering why you were so nervous in the first place.

If you've been thinking about giving AFC a go but have been letting those nerves get the better of you, this is your sign to reach out and do it scared.
Fill out an inquiry below and I will get back to you:

Can I let you in on a little secret? 🀫
Almost every member at AFC has had one of these thoughts before their first class.

Not because they weren't capable.... but because starting something new is scary.

Walking through the door is often the hardest part.

After that, you will realise we are a bunch of everyday people trying to get a little fitter, have a laugh and support each other along the way.

If you've been thinking about coming along, I'd love to welcome you to a class β™₯️

One of the biggest reasons I love running Step-tember each year isn't actually because of the steps... it's because of the community that comes from it. πŸ’™

For the third year, our AFC group chats and group walks are back!

Before Step-tember starts I create a group chat for everyone taking part. It quickly becomes a place where we all share our daily steps, celebrate the wins (big or small), encourage each other on the days we're lacking motivation and somehow end up having some pretty random conversations too. πŸ˜‚

Last year's group chat was such a fun little community and I genuinely hope we can create that same environment again this year. It makes such a difference knowing there are other people working towards the same goal as you.

We're also bringing back our group walks and in the same locations because, honestly... why fix what ain't broke?

We'll kick things off with the Nyora Railway Track, which is a beautiful, gentle walk that's dog friendly, pram friendly and perfect for bringing the whole family along. It's such a relaxed morning and a great way to start Step-tember.

To finish the month we will head back to the George Bass Walk at Kilcunda. This one is definitely a bit more challenging with a few hills, but the views make it worth it! If you joined us last year, you'll probably remember we got caught in the rain, had a couple of near slips and somehow spent most of the walk laughing anyway. It's one of those memories that still gets brought up almost a year later.

These are the things that make Step-tember so much more than just trying to hit a step goal.

The best part is knowing you've got a whole group of people cheering you on, keeping you accountable and reminding you that you don't have to do it alone.

Whether your goal is to move a little more, build healthier habits, challenge yourself or simply be part of a great community while raising money for an amazing cause, I'd absolutely love to have you join the AFC Crew this September.

πŸ’™ 5 Things Everyone Should Know About Cerebral Palsy

As we prepare for our 4th year of Steptember, I wanted to take a moment to share a little more about the cause we're walking for.

Cerebral palsy is the most common physical disability in childhood, yet many people don't know much about it. Raising awareness is just as important as raising funds, so here are 5 things everyone should know. πŸ‘‡

πŸ’™ 1. Cerebral palsy is the most common physical disability in childhood.
It affects movement, posture and muscle coordination.

πŸ’™ 2. Cerebral palsy is caused by abnormal brain development or damage to the developing brain, usually before or during birth, or in early infancy.
In many cases, the exact cause is unknown.
It isn't contagious, and it isn't anyone's fault.

πŸ’™ 3. No two people with cerebral palsy are the same.
Some people walk independently, while others use wheelchairs, walkers or communication devices. Every person's journey is unique.

πŸ’™ 4. Early intervention can change lives.
Access to therapy and support can improve mobility, communication, independence and confidence. The earlier support begins, the greater the opportunity to build lifelong skills.

πŸ’™ 5. Your support makes a difference.
Every dollar raised through Steptember helps fund research, early intervention programs, therapy and support services, and resources for families living with cerebral palsy.

Over the past three years, our incredible Affinity Fitness Crew has raised $4,437 to support the Cerebral Palsy Alliance. This year, we're aiming to raise another $2,000 and I'd love for you to be part of it.

πŸ’™ Every step creates a brighter future.

Join the Affinity Fitness Crew this Steptember to:

πŸ‘£ Build healthy habits
πŸ‘£ Be part of an incredible community

πŸ’™ Why does Cerebral Palsy matter?

Every year, our team laces up our runners and commits to stepping throughout September. While it's a fantastic fitness challenge, the real reason we do it goes far beyond counting steps.

Cerebral palsy is the most common physical disability in childhood. It affects movement, muscle control and coordination, and every person's experience is different. For many families, it means years of therapy, medical appointments, specialist equipment and adapting to challenges most of us never have to think about.

That's why we're stepping.

Every dollar raised through Steptember helps fund:
πŸ’™ Early intervention programs
πŸ’™ Research into cerebral palsy
πŸ’™ Therapy and support services
πŸ’™ Resources for children and their families

Over the past three years, our Affinity Fitness community has raised $4,437 for Cerebral Palsy Alliance, and this year we're aiming to raise another $2,000.

Imagine the difference we can make together.

Joining Steptember isn't about being the fittest person or walking 10,000 steps every day. It's about challenging yourself, moving your body, building healthy habits, and knowing that every step is helping create opportunities for children and adults living with cerebral palsy.

Let's make our fourth year our biggest impact yet. πŸ’™πŸ‘£
