π 5 Things Everyone Should Know About Cerebral Palsy
As we prepare for our 4th year of Steptember, I wanted to take a moment to share a little more about the cause we're walking for.
Cerebral palsy is the most common physical disability in childhood, yet many people don't know much about it. Raising awareness is just as important as raising funds, so here are 5 things everyone should know. π
π 1. Cerebral palsy is the most common physical disability in childhood.
It affects movement, posture and muscle coordination.
π 2. Cerebral palsy is caused by abnormal brain development or damage to the developing brain, usually before or during birth, or in early infancy.
In many cases, the exact cause is unknown.
It isn't contagious, and it isn't anyone's fault.
π 3. No two people with cerebral palsy are the same.
Some people walk independently, while others use wheelchairs, walkers or communication devices. Every person's journey is unique.
π 4. Early intervention can change lives.
Access to therapy and support can improve mobility, communication, independence and confidence. The earlier support begins, the greater the opportunity to build lifelong skills.
π 5. Your support makes a difference.
Every dollar raised through Steptember helps fund research, early intervention programs, therapy and support services, and resources for families living with cerebral palsy.
Over the past three years, our incredible Affinity Fitness Crew has raised $4,437 to support the Cerebral Palsy Alliance. This year, we're aiming to raise another $2,000 and I'd love for you to be part of it.
π Every step creates a brighter future.
