Today we came together at the Brunswick Dojo for our final Kaicho Black Belt Training session before grading next month.

We started the session with another brilliant Kaicho warm-up, followed by some stationary kata work.

From there, we worked through Tensho, Sanchin, Sanseiru, Seeinchin and Shisochin. We also spent time working on Seisan kata and bunkai, focusing on the practical application and understanding behind the movements.

The senior ranks then finished the session by performing Suparimpei.

It was a fantastic training session, as always, with plenty of focus, effort and attention to detail throughout.

A great way to finish our Kaicho Black Belt training before we head into grading season next month.

Train hard, stay focused and keep moving forward. 🥋

🥋 GKK Tournament – Round 2 🥋

Today we competed in the second round of the GKK tournaments, with 3 competitors representing Langwarrin Karate.

Every one of them should be extremely proud of what they achieved today.

Finlay competed in his very first tournament as a junior 5th Kyu. He performed Gekisai Dai Ichi and placed 4th. Considering this was his first time competing, I was extremely impressed with the way he handled himself and performed his kata. Finlay, you should be very proud of yourself.

🥉 Michael Girdwood competed in the Brown Belt division, performing Seiyunchin, and placed 3rd.

🥉🥈 Kobey Stanes competed in the Black Belt & Above Point Sparring division and was awarded Bronze.
He also competed in the Junior Black Belt continuous Sparring and received a Silver medal for 2nd place.

🥉 I also competed in the Veterans Kata division and was fortunate enough to place 3rd.

As Chief Instructor of Langwarrin Karate, I couldn’t be prouder of everyone who stepped onto the mats today. Tournament competition takes courage, preparation and a willingness to challenge yourself against your peers , and all 3 competitors represented our dojo exceptionally well.

A fantastic effort by everyone. Congratulations! 👊🥋

Sharing Knowledge, Gaining Strength.

We held our second Kaicho Combined Training Session at the Langwarrin Dojo, welcoming students from the Brunswick, Frankston, and Bega dojos.

The session began with a structured warm-up, followed by kihon (basic techniques), with a strong focus on fundamentals and building into more advanced combinations.

The senior training portion centred on kata, including Seeinchin and Tensho, and concluded with Suparimpei led by Kaicho.

With excellent weather and strong attendance, the day was a great success. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to another productive training session.

We look forward to the next Kaicho Black Belt Training Session - which will be hosted by the Brunswick Dojo 5th September starting at 11am . Oss!

Today was the first round of the Goju Karate Konpe Tournament, and Kobey competed in two events with outstanding results.

In point sparring, Kobey fought hard to earn a bronze medal, and in his favourite event, Renzoku Kumite (continuous sparring), he put in a fantastic performance to take home a well-deserved silver medal.

With two more rounds still to come later this year, this is a fantastic start to the tournament season.

Kobey, today you showed great heart, determination, and true fighting spirit. You competed with courage, displayed excellent sportsmanship, and represented Langy Karate with pride both on and off the dojo floor.

A big congratulations to all the other competitors as well — you all showed true spirit, respect, and a fantastic competitive attitude amongst your fellow competitors. That is what karate is all about.

We are all very proud of you here at Langy Karate — well done, Kobey! 🥋🏅

Kaicho Combined Training – Langwarrin

What a great session today at Langwarrin 👊

Really appreciate everyone making the effort to come together — big thank you to our sister dojos Frankston, Brunswick and Bega for getting along. Always good to have everyone on the mats training as one.

Plenty of strong training across all levels, and it was great to see the juniors stepping up alongside the seniors.

Thanks to Kaicho for running the session and sharing his knowledge as always.

Special thanks to Michael Girdwood for capturing the day 📸

And a big congratulations to Toby Hanger on being awarded the Sensei Award — well deserved 👏

Proud of what we’re building together.

Meet Max ⭐

At just 12-years-old, Max is an accomplished young author of two books - including one written during his prep year - and a passionate animal conservationist. Now, he’s added another impressive achievement to his growing list.

When Max’s mum spotted a social media post about a young child who had gone missing from a large local park, Max didn’t hesitate. He insisted on heading out to help with the search.

His determination paid off, with Max locating the child at a nearby large shopping centre before calmly coordinating contact with police and family members, ensuring the child was safely reunited with their loved ones.

In recognition of his outstanding initiative and community spirit, Frankston Police proudly presented Max with a Certificate of Recognition.

Congratulations Max, a well-deserved acknowledgement 👏

🥋 Kaicho Black Belt Training – First Session for 2026

We kicked off the first Kaicho Black Belt training session for 2026 with a Kaicho-style warm-up, focusing on stretching, mobility, and functional movement—fundamental elements that are essential for all martial artists.

From there we moved into partner work, covering bunkai, starting from Gekesai Ich through to Seipai. Kaicho would select a particular section of the bunkai, and we then had to perform and demonstrate the application with our partner. This really challenged our understanding of timing, positioning, and the deeper principles within the kata.

Our next Kaicho Black Belt session will be a combined training at Lalor, Saturday 11th April where we will be joined by our sister dojo from NSW Hornsby and Bega .
It will be a fantastic opportunity to train together, share knowledge, and strengthen the connection within the WGKA family.

A great start to the year with everyone pushing themselves and supporting each other.

Oss! 🥋
