Apples & teaspoons of sugar are not even close to similar. Breaking Nutrition down to target an individual nutrients or is way over simplistic and not helpful.
Apples are packed with fibre, vitamins, minerals and phytosterols. Not to mention that they are filling and satisfying to eat.
Sugar on the other hand has none of these. Eating 5 tsp of sugar is not filling and satisfying, nor will it contribute to your meeting your nutrition needs.
Not to mention that research shows that people who eat fruit are less likely to suffer with chronic diseases like stroke, diabetes and heart disease and therefore more likely to live longer and healthier lives.
While we can all do with less added sugar, don’t lose sight of the forrest for the trees.
Note: if you do have IBS, go for an orange or some strawberries instead of an apple. .
