Hello race fans, motoring enthusiasts and all viewers of this post.
It is with sadness that we announce the passage of Graham Timms, a much-cherished character and devotee of the Geelong Motor Sports Club who passed away on the 16th of September. Graham joined the GMSC in 1992 as well as being a popular member of GORBA.
Graham joined the GMSC as well as the Autocross committee when events had modest number of regular entries ranging from mid to high twenties. After taking the reins about 1994, these numbers were heading up to the high 40s and more than 60 at times, that he had to cap entries to 60 just to keep it manageable.
He enrolled his family to kick the canteen back into life with his wife Pam running the show and Darren, Nicolle and Stacey helping out cooking and the servery, in between their heats on the track. His idea was to go out have fun as well teach his children to drive whole having fun.
He knew the right mix of hard work with fun and every time you saw him, you were always greeted with a smile and often a joke or at least had something humorous to say.
The old Bay Hotel was the traditional home of the Geelong Motor Sports Club, and it was there where a lot of time was spent chatting not just about the club and motor sport, in general, but all sorts of things. Usually, the conversations kept going in the car park long after the pub was shut. Grahams contributions to these conversations are probably the reason why a few of us may, or may not have got in trouble with our partners for getting home long after the meeting closed (including himself).
In the later years Graham had deservedly taken a back seat in motorsport, as his family had grown up and got on with their own endeavours. He had only returned to Khanacross in recent years, in his Subaru Impreza wagon and later joined by Darren in his Impreza. Graham was also very much into the Mopar scene with his Charger and up until recently, had been building a kit Hot Rod.
