The Old Tassie Codgers, redbull billy cart race Melbourne 2022

We made it to the end! And we even managed to not hurt ourselves or the billy cart. The commentators said that we had the best built cart of the day which was great! And we also achieved a score of 42/50 points for the creativity design. Unfortunately our brakes literally got stuck on during the course which had a massive impact to our speed. But, we still hit every obstacle and the cart handled it well. We are now awaiting to find out our offical place on the scoreboard.

It’s race day! And we managed to pass the inspection requirements 😃 Our race is at 2:45, tune into 7mate to watch it live!

Tomorrow is the day that we all head to the big smoke of Melbourne. This event hasn’t been in Aussie since 2004 and we are the only Tasmanian team participating! Channel 7plus will be airing live on the day.. we are the 45th team to race with an approx time of 2:00-2:45pm 🙂

After a final test run (with jumps) and a few final touches we are now ready to head to Melbourne next week for race day!!

We have some colour! We are hoping to do one more test run this weekend which will include a jump. We have been told very little about what the track will include on actual race day, however there will be 3 jumps 😳 15 days to go..

A productive day in the workshop today, we are well underway with the bodywork!

Update time! We are happy to advise everyone that we now have a major sponsor - the House of Motorcycles! Adam and his team have been very helpful with supplying their knowledge, parts and materials to help with the build.

We spent the evening in their workshop a few nights ago and we completed the rear axle, mounted the brakes, relocated and reinforced the steering column, and a few other jobs.

We are almost ready to do a test run, stay tuned!

We have lowered and widened the front end, and we also made new (and heaps stronger!) front axles.

Unfortunately, due to weight restrictions we have completely removed the rear suspension setup. We have also brought new wheels and they certainly won’t be a weak point 💪🏼

We have had a very productive night tonight too, more photos to come soon!

Shane kindly donated a ride on mower to our team, where we used the front section of the mower and grafted on our rear chassis and suspension 🙂

Couple of good days have been spent in the shed by the crew! With rear suspension design remade, rear brakes set up (currently in the shop getting extended), flooring, drivers seat fitted and shortened steering column.

Our brand new wheels and tires will hopefully arrive by the end of the week which will be great !
