Junior Road Nationals ...
Well done to our riders Nic Broxam and Ava Napier.
For Ava who has recently transitioned from MTB to road/track cycling she was literally thrown in the deep end competing in her first and last junior road cycling nationals. A steep learning curve but one she embraced, learnt so much from and performed exceptionally well in.
Ava competed in the Time Trial on a borrowed bike to meet TT requirements and fulfilled all advice on doing her best. In the road race now on her own bike she made her presence on the line and cornered on the revised course like a pro and mixing it with some talented juniors only to be out sprinted in the final 200m.
In the criterium heat she missed the start unable to get her foot in the pedal however she applied her grit and was determined to make the final scrapping in for 10th. In the final she once again dominated to hold on until the sprint finish.
A great experience, a fast learner and improver and looking forward to see the improvement over the next 12months.

As for Nic, a great Time Trial finishing 19th. In the revised road course all Tasmania's junior 17s had perfect position at the front of the race - particularly important on narrow roads with 70 riders until the last 300m of the race where the roads were opened up for the final sprint and Nic was caught up in a squeeze and touch of wheels to come down hard ending his race and ability to race the criterium. Nic was incredibly happy with his performance in the road race and upbeat post crash. Thankfully no broken bones but now time to heal and recover before the jump to u19 which he is very much looking forward to.

A big weekend for our riders this weekend with the LCCC Deloraine to Launceston, Amy Gillet Gran Fondo and last preparations for junior road nationals.

On Saturday Emily Walker stepped out in her new StepFwd team kit and took overall 2nd place and First Lady in the Deloraine to Launceston. Ava Napier racing in the same grade raced well with the senior women on junior gearing and our boys Jack Hadley and Nic Broxam racing in B grade and Jack taking 2nd in a strong B grade finish.

On Sunday, in Lorne Victoria Chris Colley rolled up at 730am to compete in the Amy Gillet Gran Fondo. Chris was extremely delighted to finish 30+mins ahead of his time last year and finishing 23/85 riders.

Whilst back here at Evandale Nic and Ava went through some last minute TT training.
