Jane was out enjoying the unreal weather with her family over the weekend when she bumped into Kira and Patrick out for a bike ride.

She sent me this photo and I reckon it sums up so much of what we talk about at R&S 🙌🏼

Kira’s been training with us for a few years now. She puts the work in each week, she’s strong, she’s fit and when Patrick wants to get out on the bikes, she can get out there with him.

And I guess the question I wanted to share today is: if your kid asked you to do a physical activity with them today, could you?

Maybe it’s kicking the footy in the backyard. Going for a swim with them. Helping them train for their sport of choice. Or something as simple as jumping on the bikes for the afternoon.

We want our bodies to keep up with the life we actually want to live. Not just so we feel good ourselves (although that’s a bloody great benefit too), but so we can keep showing up for the people we love.

For Kira, that meant getting out on the bikes with Patrick this weekend.

Pretty bloody cool to see the work she puts in each week allowing her to do exactly that ❤️

Danielle wasn’t actually planning on joining the gym 😂

She just happened to be with Robyn when Jane messaged about Robyn coming back...

12 weeks later, Robyn has her gym routine back and Danielle is doing things she genuinely wasn’t sure her body would let her do! Not to mention, their weekly catch-ups are sorted 🙌🏼

We wanted to share this story because there was no big “right, we’re changing our lives” moment.

One was ready to come back.
One thought she might as well give it a go.

And now it’s just part of their week.

They get their training in, have a catch-up, keep each other accountable... and keep the 5am Small Group PT crew updated on what they’ve bought shopping each week 😂🛍️

It’s spring and it also means it’s fad diet season because we need to look great for summer 🤦‍♀️

Farrrrrr out….

Let’s just start to nailed the basics of nutrition all year round so we feel great from the food we consistently consume.

Match that with your consistent two sessions a week and this time next year your won’t be freaking out about your weight ✌️

You’d probably look at Dom and assume one of two things:

“He must go to the gym.”

Or…

“He doesn’t need a gym, he already looks fit.”

But when I spoke to Dom last week, he told me that his physique is largely genetics. Weight has never been an issue for him.

And for years, that hid the fact that he was actually pretty weak and unfit.

Dom is a primary school teacher, and he would find himself puffing during everyday activities with the kids even when people who didn’t “look as fit” as him were coping just fine.

That was his wake-up call.

He didn’t need the gym to change how he looked.

He needed the gym to change what his body could actually do.

Now he trains three or four times a week to build the strength and fitness he needs for his job, performing on stage and everything else he wants to experience outside our doors.

It’s a good reminder not to compare your body with somebody else’s.

Looking fit and being fit are not the same thing.

Everyone has work to do somewhere and we genuinely couldn’t give a f**k what you look like.

We care whether your body allows you to live your best life beyond our gym doors.

We talk a lot about creating memories outside the gym doors.

Because you never really know what an invite to pickleball might mean to someone.

Maybe it’s just a fun Friday night. Maybe it’s a chance to meet new people, have something to look forward to, or spend a couple of hours around good people when you really needed it.

You might join a gym for your health, but somewhere along the way, you can find your people there too.

And that’s always been a big part of what we want Rise & Shine to be.

A place to get stronger, move better and feel good, absolutely. But also a place where you know the faces around you, make genuine connections and feel like you’re part of something.

That’s why we’ll keep creating opportunities for our community to connect outside the gym too.

Although apparently we can’t do that without making it slightly competitive 😂

Thanks to everyone who came along Friday night, and congrats to our pickleball champs, Julie + Alison 🏆🙌🏼

Just checking 👀

Because sometimes we make this whole health and fitness thing way harder than it needs to be 😂

Fussing about the latest diet, whether carbs are bad, if two sessions is actually enough, if we should be doing more… meanwhile, having coffee and the kids leftover toast for breakfast, not getting enough protein and waiting for life to “calm down” before we get back to the gym.

And really, most of the time it’s the less exciting stuff that probably needs our attention first.

Eating decent meals. Eating enough protein in throughout the day. Lifting weights that actually challenge you. Finding a couple of sessions that fit into your week and keep turning up to them week after week.

You don’t have to be perfect Monday to Friday. But you also don’t have to throw the whole week in the bin because Monday was a sh*tshow 😂

There’s always going to be something new we could fuss about.

But we reckon getting the basics done consistently will take you a lot further in life.
