Stop Butchering Your Lat Pulldowns! 🛑🦅
Let’s be real—if you’re doing lat pulldowns like the first video, you’re leaving serious back gains on the table (and probably making your shoulders hate you).
Our PT Manager, Sal, is here to break down the absolute most common mistake we see on the gym floor every single day at Snap Leichhardt.
❌ Video 1: The “Ego Pull”
Notice how the bar comes way too low, the shoulders roll completely forward, and the bar drags down past the chest? The problem: The second your shoulders roll forward, your lats check out. You completely lose the tension where it matters and dump all that nasty stress straight into your rotator cuffs and front delts.
✅ Video 2: The Perfect Pull
Chest flared out and proud, pulling the bar right to the top of the chest (around the collarbone). But here is the real secret sauce: on the way back up, let your head come through your shoulders, almost like you’re mimicking the bottom of a pull-up.
Why does this matter? Keeping your chest up and shoulders back ensures your lats are doing the heavy lifting. Pushing your head through on the eccentric (the way up) gives your lats a massive, deep stretch at the top. A bigger stretch equals better range of motion, which equals a wider, stronger back.
Stop just moving weight from point A to point B, and start actually feeling the right muscles work! 💪
Not sure if your form is dialled in? Or just want to take your training to the next level? Let’s get it sorted.
