New Name

Both Hannah and Jacob were once again selected to represent NSW in the 4x100 relay teams, with Hannah running in the U18 women’s team and Jacob in the U16 men’s. Both teams finished strong, placing 3rd.

Hannah also competed individually in the U17 women’s 100m and 200m. She placed 6th in the 200m final with a time of 25.20 and just missed the 100m final, placing 10th with a time of 12.24. She’s had a very consistent season, narrowly missing a sub-12 in the 100m with a PB of 12.01, and setting a 200m PB of 24.67. Big things are definitely on the horizon for her next season.

Jacob qualified in both the 100m and 200m, but unfortunately a glute strain impacted his competition plans. He ran his 100m heat in 11.37, qualifying 3rd fastest into the final. However, he made the incredibly tough decision to withdraw from both the 100m final and the 200m. It wasn’t the outcome he’d worked so hard for, and it wasn’t an easy choice, but it was the right one. He chose to think long-term, prioritizing recovery, next season, and his continued love for the sport. I’m incredibly proud of the strength and maturity he showed in choosing the bigger picture, and there’s no doubt he’ll be back even stronger next season.

Huge congratulations to Jacob Copp on this achievement. Back in April at Little Athletics Nationals, Jacob ran a PB of 11.43 to equal the Australian Best Performance in the U/13 Boys 100m. Your hard work, dedication, and commitment are paying off👊🏼

Congratulations to Hannah Shortland who won 🥇 as part of the u/16 4x100 team at the National Championships today. Well done Hannah!

Day 2 at Nationals saw Jacob compete in the 200m and U/14 4x100, and Hannah in the U/16 4x100.

Jacob also ran a very well executed heat for the 200m and had a time of 23.91 and an automatic qualifying spot for the final.
In the final he ran another great race, running 24.17 earning him first place and being titled the U/14 200m National Champion.

This is Jacob’s first National title and I couldn’t be more proud of his results today. His work ethic mixed with his resilient personality is amazing to see.
It’s rare to come across a young man that’s as hard working, talented and humble as Jacob Copp. It has been a pleasure working towards this milestone and it will be one that I remember for a very long time as it’s also the squads first National Title.

Hannah and Jacob were chosen to represent NSW in the 4x100 this evening. Jacob’s team came 3rd running a time of 48.83 and Hannah’s team came 1st running 46.71👊🏼

Day 1 at Nationals saw Hannah compete in the 100m. She ran a very well executed heat and was rewarded with a small pb of 12.28 and a spot in the final later in the day.

In the final she ran 12.48 and placed 7th in Australia. Last nationals she just missed the final and placed 10th overall.
Couldn’t ask for a better result👊🏼
