10 April 2022.

Final session for Pep 1 2022.

These two groups have shown fantastic development since the sessions commenced 11 February. We have had two floods and continuing Covid to contend with, but all Teams were determined to make the most of this opportunity to understand basic agility concepts.

Fourteen Teams were involved and the majority are now ready to move on to Foundations. Thank you to Wendy Gallagher for assisting with their development.

Thank you also to Alstonville Showgrounds for allowing us to use their arena. Lovely environment and great people!!

Back at Clifford Park……..

Prep Groups had a great training session Sunday 3 April back at the club grounds. Zeus even needed his umbrella…..as a sun shade! 🤪

We have one more session to go before the Foundations Course commences and all Teams have made excellent progress over the past 8 weeks, despite interruptions caused by floods and the odd Covid case.

Lots of learning and fun….👌🐩🐩🙃

Prep Training at Alstonville Showgrounds 27 March.

Once again our grounds in Goonellabah were not up to scratch so training was shifted to what is becoming to feel like a second home…thank you to the Showgrounds Society and staff for accommodating us. The surface on the arena has good drainage and even with rain, remains firm.

The weather was variable, but at least the Teams got to appreciate the real world of dog sports……☀️🌥🌦🌨🌧

This week we tackled a small course sequence and looked at skills associated with lead leg changes and jumping.

All Teams are progressing nicely and have two more sessions before moving on to Foundations. 👏👏👏

Prep Training was a welcome distraction yesterday.

Some members of the groups were still not able to attend because of the aftermath of the floods, but those that did had a pleasant afternoon, playing with their best buddies.

We were once again at Alstonville Showgrounds in a lovely environment…..such a great place to work. 👌👌

Thank you Alstonville Show Society and staff 🙏🙏🙏

The floods up in this region have been terrible and everyone in the club knows several people who have been badly affected, not to mention the disruption to normal lives because of damage to roads, telecommunications and other infrastructure. The cleanup continues……😢

The rain has turned our normal training ground into a bit of a swamp, but we managed to give joy to some of the Prep Team members who were able to attend training yesterday. We had a really productive and fun class at Alstonville Showgrounds, home of our August Trial.

We were able to use the main arena for tunnel and sequence work and the surface was great…..the sun even came out for a while and there were only a few drops of rain. The arena was soggy around the edges. But we also used the shed for checking the Teams’ square stands and this was a great place to work because of the decreased distractions.

Really happy with the venue…..and thank you to the staff who were so welcoming.🙏🙏🙏

Northern Rivers K9 Sports Club members send best wishes to all Teams directly or indirectly affected by the current floods.

Although we have not been able to run general training recently, Agility Prep sessions will recommence, possibly at Alstonville Showgrounds, on 13 March.

Session 2 Prep 1 2022

Fantastic afternoon had by everyone yesterday. So much talent and heaps of progress. We practised cueing the dog to go into the tunnel, using the RZ to execute bump jump sequences, one with a pivot turn around a cone and with fantastic success a blind cross between two bump jumps.

Prep 1 2022

Two groups of seven Teams commenced their preparation for Agility on Sunday 13 Feb.

Let’s hope the weather and the Covid situation stay favourable so that we can all have fun with our buddies.

In between the showers, the club ran 3 training sessions in November for Teams who have completed the Prep Course and are now ready to move on to Foundations which will be run early next year.

Each session involved the Hoomans identifying the dog’s running line and discussing the various options for handling while walking the course before inviting their buddies to join them.

Teams drew on their experiences in Prep and were able to see the importance of back-chaining while practising their Front Crosses, Blind Crosses, tunnel entries and start-line stays…..as well as having lots of fun.

These are three of the course layouts the Teams used during the training sessions.
