Back burning at Bayview this week.

⚠️🔥 Redland City Council’s Parks and Conservation crews will undertake multiple hazard reduction burns in sections of bushland within the Bayview Conservation Area from Tuesday 1 September to Thursday 3 September 2026, weather conditions permitting.

The locations of the burn areas are 243-271 Days Road and 76-152 Kidd Street, Redland Bay – highlighted in yellow on the map.

Two small but mighty crews took on Bayview last Sunday and an alternative Scribbly this week. Both days were perfect weather. At Bayview, we rode You're Kidding, Sock Puppet East, Whispering Woods, IO, The Maze, Shark's Tail and finally Pickup Sticks. At Scribbly, we started at Nanette Court. We did Downpipe, Luge, Firing Line, Candy, Pool Shark, and Red Belly before nailing Weippen in the Bowl. Then onto Platypus, Orchid, Bondi, Hammer, Little Scrubber, Scorpion Rock, and Flow out of Control (done both ways by the electrics Shaine and Janene) while Bec and Lorna cruised home the easy way! Finished in record time and still had time for a few laughs and wooden posing from the gang 💯.

Our latest session of TrailCare for Redland City Council took place early on Sunday morning.

After receiving a status update from a group of RATS women last week, we did some work on 'Firing Line' in Redlands Track Park (Scribbly).

Most of the trail has held up remarkably well since we were out there last (the year before last I think?). But a couple of sections had some rather large rooty drops that took the trail beyond its Green rating, particularly when climbing.

Accompanied by club President, Aaron; my beloved Claire; and our little champion, Tallis (who did some great work clearing out a drain and sweeping the trail of debris and loose roots); we made the trail easily rideable again by riders of (almost) any level.

Thanks to our modest little team, and thanks to our informants for the trail condition tips!

This weekend's Working Bee will focus on completing two small areas of the new trail to improve user experiences, then we can put up the new trail signs!!

RATS Chicks have been too busy riding the trails to be posting on Facebook 🚵‍♀️🚵‍♀️ but let’s get everyone caught up on recent adventures …

The last month has seen us hit Bayview, Daisy Hill from the Temple, Daisy Hill from Ford Rd and Scribbly Gums for p-plate. We’ve had a great mix of the usual faces, some new chicks and some old friends who we haven’t seen in a while. Big shout out to Shaine who’s back from injury and already leading rides again, it’s wonderful to have her back.

Coming up we’re planning to reinvigorate our riding locations with away rides on the third Sat of each month, linking in with our friends the Dirt Girls where we can. And as always our Sunday afternoon local rides continue. But with the days getting longer and warmer we’ll be looking to push back our start times in the coming months. So keep an eye on the RATS event page and we’ll see you on the trails 💖👊
