On Saturday, we held our inaugural Western R.A.C.E. Trade-Off Day⚡️❄️
It was Sparkies vs Fridgies, as the guys spent the day doing various activities to earn points, though they didn’t know how the points were earned. There were some “fines” as well, with points deducted for some dodgy antics.
The day started with a few hours on the river thanks to Thomson River Bbq & Fishing Pontoon hire . As they boarded the boat, it was a lucky dip for Shirt of the Day, with no one needing to pay the fine for refusal to wear what they pulled out of the bag. They immediately loaded up their personalised Yetis thanks to Sharyn at Longreach Embroidery & Sewing. We had no luck with the fish, but plenty of fun was still had, with a few funny moments that we will be laughing about for years to come (some didn’t feel quite so funny at the time 😆)
Next we hit up the Tavern for darts and pool, which progressively got harder to watch 🫠 There was plenty of competition between the team, with some a little less humble than others…
Our afternoon looked a little rocky for a moment thanks to the recent rain, but we are very grateful for Cal and the Longreach Golf Club for saving the day and opening up the Driving Range for us. ⛳️
In terms of who won the day with the most points, I don’t really need to tell you - he’ll let you know 🤣 Jett came out on top by only half a point - which we put down to the gherkin he ate off the floor of the boat… it literally came down to a pickle 🥒
The day was an early get-together before Christmas sneaks up too close, as our industry gets pretty busy this time of year. But it was also to farewell someone who has been an important member of not only our team but also the Machin family.
Liam came into our lives by chance in February, when he got stranded from flood waters on the way from Sydney to Darwin. He asked Matt for some work while he was stuck here, and just never left 😆 He moved in with us, and got to live his pilot dreams of flying people on tours while he was here. He shared his time between the air and with us a sparky, which was such an enormous help for us.
We are sad to see him go, but we know he’ll be back one day. For now, he’s off travelling and we wish him safety and lots of fun.
For the rest of us, we’ll just be hearing about Jett’s win for the next 12 months, until someone else tries to take the top spot and take home the Western R.A.C.E. Trade-Off Cup. 🏆
