A little bit of spring at The Yoga Shed

One of the things I love about teaching here is watching the property change through the seasons.

At the moment we have spring growth, wattle flowering, the Manchurian pear coming back to life and plenty happening in the gardens.

The setting has always been an important part of The Yoga Shed.

We have three acres, mountain views and plenty of space around the studio, so coming to yoga can feel quite different from arriving at a room in the middle of a busy commercial area.

Explore the Chakras — 8 weeks online

If you’re interested in learning more about the chakras, our online Explore the Chakras course goes well beyond a brief introduction to each one.

Over eight weeks we work progressively through the seven main chakras before bringing everything together in the final week.

There are yoga practices, pranayama, meditation and other awareness practices to explore, with seven different practices available each week.

There are also weekly reflection questions because an important part of the course is noticing how the qualities associated with each chakra might be reflected in your own life, habits and patterns.

You certainly don't have to complete every practice. The course is designed to give you plenty to explore and the freedom to decide how deeply you want to immerse yourself.

If you enjoy the philosophical and more subtle aspects of yoga as well as the physical practice, this is a lovely one to work through over eight weeks.

If you’d like to keep some continuity in your yoga practice over the term break, we have a simple online option available.

Our Livestream Studio Class Recordings give you four weeks' access to four different Yoga Shed classes:

• Sunrise Yoga
• Mindful Strength
• Unwind & Align
• Sacred Sounds Meditation

These are recordings of actual studio classes, so you’re practising along with the class rather than watching a highly edited yoga video.

You can choose the practice that suits you on the day and do it whenever you have the time.

It’s also a good option if you don’t live nearby, travel regularly, or simply like the convenience of being able to practise at home.

Your four weeks of access begins when you purchase.

Sometimes the body needs more than a short relaxation at the end of a yoga class.

Nurture gives us 2.5 hours to work slowly with restorative yoga, meditation and sound massage.

We use mattresses, bolsters, blankets, eye pillows and sandbag weights to support the body in restorative postures, allowing muscles to soften and unnecessary effort to gradually let go.

Sound Meditation and sound massage add another dimension to the practice, helping to settle the nervous system and quieten mental activity.

With only five people in each Nurture session (a few less than in this pic!), there’s plenty of space, individual attention and time to properly settle into the practices. There's also time to pamper the practitioner by adding weights to the body and cradling the body in blankets.

There is already a waiting list for this Saturday's event from 2–4.30pm but we have another one scheduled for Friday 27 November 5-7:30pm so get in quick for that one.

Two and a half hours devoted to slowing down.

Nurture combines restorative yoga, meditation and therapeutic sound massage in a very small group, with plenty of time to settle rather than moving quickly from one practice to the next.

Mattresses, bolsters, blankets, weights and eye pillows support the body while singing bowls and other sound massage instruments add another layer to the experience.

It’s a spacious experience of yoga for those times when doing less is exactly what is needed.

Term Break at The Yoga Shed | 19 September – 17 October

Our regular 8-week term is coming to an end, but there are still plenty of opportunities to practise with us over the break.

Term break is when we change the rhythm a little — a few casual classes to keep you moving, along with some of our longer special events that we only offer occasionally.

TERM BREAK PROGRAM

🌿 Sat 19 Sept | 2–4.30pm
NURTURE – Restorative Yoga & Sound Massage
2.5 hours of restorative yoga, sound massage and sound meditation.

🌅 Sat 26 Sept | 6.30–7.15am
Sunrise Yoga with Jenny

🌅 Sat 3 Oct | 6.30–7.15am
Sunrise Yoga with Nic

🔔 Sat 10 Oct | 1–3pm
Sacred Vibrations – Small Group Sound Massage
An intimate 2-hour sound experience with a maximum of six participants.

🌅 Sat 17 Oct | 6.30–7.15am
Sunrise Yoga with Nic

🌿 Sat 17 Oct | 3.30–4.30pm
Yin & Restorative Yoga with Lauren

Everything during the break can be booked casually, so it’s also a good opportunity to visit The Yoga Shed for the first time, try a different style of class, or simply keep your practice ticking along until our next 8-week term begins.

Bookings are open now through our Schedule page.

Our harmonium used in our chanting classes and sometimes to close a class.
It's traditional in yoga to close a class with the Short Shanti Mantra.

The Short Shanti Mantra is:
Om Om Om
Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti
Hari Om

Hari Om Tat Sat (closing statement)

Om is the universal mantra, shanti means peace and Hari Om Tat Sat means the highest in me bows to the highest in you.

A lovely sentiment to conclude a class with.

A look at how we use our props to support the body in Supta Baddha Konasana and Legs Up the Wall.

You’ll find postures like these in our Chakra Yoga & Meditation classes & Yin/Restorative Yoga — using bolsters, blankets, cushions and the wall to help the body settle comfortably and stay a little longer.

We’ll also be making very good use of our prop collection at NURTURE this weekend — 2.5 hours combining Restorative Yoga, Sound Massage and Sound Meditation.

A lovely way to spend a few hours being thoroughly supported. Last chance to book.

You’re unlikely to find a prop cupboard quite like this at a yoga class in a hall or gym!

One of the benefits of practising in a dedicated yoga studio is having everything we need right here — blankets, bolsters, cushions, blocks, straps, sandbags, eye pillows, mattresses and more.

It means we can offer a much broader range of practices and, importantly, adapt them to support different bodies and different needs.

From more active asana classes through to Yin, Restorative Yoga, meditation and sound practices, The Yoga Shed is equipped for all of it.

Sometimes the props really do matter.

It’s the last week of our 8-week term!

We run four terms each year — yep, a little like school terms. It gives us a dedicated block of time to learn, practise and build on what we’re doing from week to week, followed by a short break to integrate before we begin again.

During the term break, we change things up with some special longer events, along with a few Sunrise and Yin classes to keep you practising until the new term begins. We also have online programs you can do anytime.

So this week is a great time to try one of our regular classes casually and see if you might like to join us for the next 8-week term.

Or take a look at the term break program and try something a little different.

A time to practise, a time to integrate, and then we begin again.
