The Mercenaries of Western Europe journeyed unto the great Townsville Medieval Fair, bearing shields, steel, wares, yarns, and an entirely unreasonable amount of confidence.
The battles were glorious.
Steel rang upon steel, warriors charged forth, and many a brave soul discovered that armour doth not, in fact, make one invincible.
Our Seeress sat in her wisdom, casting the runes and peering into unknown mysteries. Whether she foretold the future or merely judged our life choices, we shall not say.
Our encampment was ever beset by visitors, who came seeking knowledge of the Viking life and stayed to handle our wares, hear our tales, inspect our armour, and doubtless wonder why we had been permitted to possess weapons.
Our noble Trader was beset upon all sides and didst labour without respite, whilst our maidens busied themselves with craft, thread, and the ancient game of Viking chess (Hnefatafl)
None were slain but many hearts were conquered.
No pillaging occurred.
And, most remarkably, nothing was accidentally conquered.
Thus ended our adventure at Townsville.
Until next we take up shield and spear.
Skål, ye glorious heathens. (And drop your favourite viking photos below!)

Mackay crew build day.
Mackay put on amazing weather for today's build day.
Ælif worked on repairing the bbq pits and stripped several raw hides. Vicky and Grey Ulf made an A frame tent, Asta and Adam worked on furniture, and Tammy is making a giant felt gum leaf.
Nice progress on all projects all round.

We had an absolutely fantastic day at Mackay PopCon on Saturday!
Epic battles were fought, stories were shared, and plenty of laughs were had.
Unfortunately, someone may have travelled slightly too far back in time... because a T-Rex turned up in camp.
History isn't always accurate, but it's always entertaining! Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hello. We can't wait to see you all again!

What. A. Day!
Yesterday, the Mercenaries of Western Europe had an absolute blast at the Wisely Food & Wine Festival, and we just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who came by to visit us!
From trying on armour and handling historical equipment, to watching weaving and felting in action, browsing our traders' tent, sitting on the throne, exploring our displays, and discovering the stories behind Early Medieval life, there was something happening all day long. We even had plenty of curious minds stopping by for rune readings and fascinating conversations about history.
One of our favourite parts of the day was seeing so many people of all ages getting hands-on with history. There were smiles, questions, laughter, and so many wonderful conversations.
A massive thank you goes to our incredible members, who spent the day sharing their knowledge, demonstrating traditional skills, and creating such a welcoming space. We also want to thank the Wisely Food & Wine Festival organisers for inviting us to be part of such a fantastic community event.

Quivy just dropped in quickly to grab her member card.

Mackay crew training.
What a lovely afternoon for a catch-up. Clear and cool with a slight breeze.
Shaun and brand new member Ben got right into strike and blocks training with plastics.
Stace, Tae and Allyra got busy with some cool felting. Aubrey spent the time designing dresses. Aoife, Asta and Charne had fat chats, and I ran around photographing everything.
Lots and lots of awesome chatter.
Present: Shaun, Stace and Aubrey, Asta, Haydn, Tae, Ælif, Aoife, Charne and Allyra.
