Recently did a trip I have been wanting to do for years. We spend 2 days walking the gorge country down at Lemon Tree Flats Camp Ground. While it was very dry and the water level was down, we did see a few cod but we missed the few shots we had at catching our first cod. Nether the less it was an amazing trip and the country side is just crazy. When you get up on the top of the ridge and look back down at where we had just walked out of, its just mind blowing. Definitely keen to get back down that way for an other shot at the cod.

Over the past few months we have been putting the Whiplash Factory Swayward16 glide baits through it's paces on the local impoundment Barra and it's been holding it's own. The Swayward 16 has been racking up some solid fish and getting the bites on a few slower sessions up the dams.

Day 4 and the fishing is still on point. After the rain over night we where expecting it to be a little slower. While it did start off that way the we still ended up boating 19 fish including 2 Bass. Some better sized fish today with a number of solid mid 40s being caught. It was a mission to get down to area we wanted to fish, getting the Dmax bogged and having to dig it out with the oars. All part of the adventure and with fishing this good well worth the effort.

Day 3 of the Burnt Thumbs Burnett River tour was an adventure all the way. About 5kms of river covered, big pools, narrow shallows and about 150m of rapids to navigate through. With a showers forecast to come through after lunch, we know today would have it all and it did. But the fishing was red hot boating 25 Yellas but only 1 Bass. 3 doubles and half the fish around the 40cm mark. It was well worth the mish.

Day 2 of the Burnt Thumbs Burnt River tour. The river didn’t disappoint again, 13 fish 2 Bass, 11 Yellas, double hook ups. Also did a morning trip out to Auburn Falls. Found the dinosaur eggs and had a good look around. It still never ceases to amaze me out there the colour of the rocks and the size of it.

We could not have asked for better weather, up at Eungella Dam for the BUNRT THUMBS FISHING SOOTY CHAMPIONSHIP. But the fish had other ideas making the teams work for their it. For team Burnt Thumbs we found fish but only managed to get 5 bites. But we stuck all 5 finishing with 5/6 fish bag. Luckily the Saturday night entertainment was as on point. With Bbq and annual knot tying comp. As usual there was a lot of talk and shots fired leading into the knot comp and it didnt disappoint. If ya talk a big game ya best tie a good knot. This year we crowned a new champ with Wayne Chivers cleaning them up. As is the way a few of the teams found the fish and put together solid bags. Team Mapley Mad Dogs, Liam Robinson & Benn Derkin coming home strong in the last session filling out their bag with some solid soots to take out the win. Congrats lads on a well deserved win. A massive thanks to Wayne & Xavier and the MTA crew for running an other great comp. A lot of work goes in behind the scenes and on the day to make these comps run smooth and the lads did a stela jobs. Thank you to all the anglers who made the trek over the hill to compete, we wouldn’t have a comp without all of you. Congrats to all the winners, it was a grind and you all deserve it. And a massive shot out to my team mate Keegan for the weekend. Always great to be on the water with ya mate. Im still hurting from laughing so hard. Theres never a dull moment in the boat with ya mate. Looking forward to next year’s comp and already have a few ideas for it.

With the BURNT THUMBS SOOTY CHAMPIONSHIP at Eungulla Dam only a couple of weeks away Keegan spent a couple of days looking around the dam. In pretty ordinary condition the boys still got into some solid soots. The Deps Evoke Shad and Pulse Cod Jr got the job done. Boating several fish over 40cm and a few rats to round it out. He said the dam is looking great as the water has cleared up and fish were spread through out the dam. If you’re keen to have a crack at the comp head over to the MTA Mackay Tournament Anglers FB page for all the details. The knot tying comp will be running again this year and is always a good laugh. Can someone take out the raining champ this year or can Keegan make it 3 years in a row. Hope to see yas up the dam.
