I'm doing something new this week. I'm at a campus I've never been to before, for a uni I've never studied with before, to spend 2 weeks with people I've never met before, to practice skills I really want to be good at. Also, I'm leaving a teen and young adult at home to do all the things they normally do, but without knowing firsthand for myself that they're actually doing it all.
It's not surprising I'm nervous. Unknown variables, unfamiliar situations and having less control than normal can make most of us nervous. Our feelings are rarely that linear, though. I'm not just nervous. I'm also thankful, excited, humbled, hopeful, disappointed by some things, in awe of other things, grateful for my husband's support, and very proud of my kids. And yes, through all that, there's this nervousness too.
One way to manage nerves or anxiety, is spending time identifying and focusing on the mix of positive and challenging feelings that are sitting right there with each other. If you've never used it before, the Calm feelings wheel is an amazing tool for this.
Here's to 2 weeks of learning, growing, doing what I can, then letting go ... and seeing what unfolds.

We all have times when we really want something but don't know if we'll get it, or when we're worried about something we wish we could stop from happening. That uncertainty can make other things seem worse too. Sometimes it helps to remind ourselves even challenges don't last forever and, however things turn out, we can adapt. Until then, it's OK to be nervous, or disappointed, or uncomfortable along the way.

Situations we feel we have no control over can affect our self-confidence, resilience, happiness, safety, and relationships. Sometimes, though, we have choices or options we can't see, or that we forget are available to us.

The balance between working towards a goal, but accepting it might take time...

Gentle strength is something to admire, respect, and keep practising. Like most skills and habits, the more we practice gentle strength, the better we get at it. Let's work on normalising respectful disagreements, gentle starts to uncomfortable or challenging conversations, and respect for others' rights to give (or withhold) consent in any situation.
