So glad im not the only “teacher”this happens to 🤣 feel im “forgetting” or having to remind myself constantly to recheck the steps 🤦🏼♀️
Please give your linedance instructors a great big “Thank You” and let them know they are appreciated!
This is a little long, but needs to be said, please read.
One of my weekly instructors has an injury that has prevented them from being able to teach their classes. I am stepping in to teach the Intermediate class. This is not the first time I have done this for this instructor and I have substituted for a previous instructor many years ago (mostly reviewing what had already been taught). I have danced all of my life; Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Modern, tiny bit of ballroom, and have been line dancing since the early 1990’s, and while I enjoy dancing, I knew I never wanted to be a teacher. Why you ask? 1.) I don’t have the patience, 2.) It’s HARD! The instructors, whether they are professional choreographers and teachers, or an individual that took on the job of teaching all of these wonderful dances, to as many people as possible, have a big job. They must find a dance at a level that most of the class can learn, they must learn the dance, then they have to teach the dance to a group of people that all learn in different ways; Some people learn by looking at the instructors feet, some by counts, some by steps, etc., then it has to be broken down by each count/step. I think I find this the most difficult. Once I know the dance, I dance it! To go slow, step by step, count by count, I lose track of where I am, and what count I am on. Then while you are dancing, you must call out the steps, and/or the counts, AND you have to breathe.😳 While I have always appreciated all of the instructors, I can say I have danced in their shoes, and it confirms what I always knew, I wouldn’t want to do it on a long term basis. So, a great big “thank you” to those that do! The next time the instructor is in front of the class or up on the stage at an event, and they have to stop, and “dance” the dance to remember where they are and what comes next, give them grace and remember to thank them for what they do!
