Look Group Sydney Ice Dogs Home of the Mighty Ice Dogs | Australian Ice Hockey League The dogs finished the with 8 wins 1 tie 6 losses from 15 games and finished 3rd. A rivalry was born!

The Sydney Ice Dogs entered the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) in 2002 as the West Sydney Ice Dogs. The club was formed by Jon Wilson and his son Anthony Wilson, who also Captained the club in its Inaugural year. It was not quite enough to make the Final. The Dogs didn't have to wait to long for some success. In 2003 the Dogs to the Newcastle North Stars 4-1 in the final of the Goodall Cup. The club didn't need to wait to long to extract revenge. 2004 seen the Dogs win their first Cup disposing of the North Stars 3-1. Once again in 2008 it was heart break for the Dogs losing to their nemesis from the North once again in the Final 4-1

In 2009 the Ice Dogs dropped "West" from their title and became simply the Sydney Ice Dogs. The Ice Dogs did not make the final this year and followed it up with another poor season in 2010. The Dogs slowly rebuilt, finishing 3rd in 2011 and 2nd in 2012. In 2013 after 11 long years the Dogs got to taste Goodall Cup victory again. And you guessed it, Newcastle were the victims. The Dogs winning 6-3 after an amazing season where they also claimed the H Newman Trophy for finishing Minor Premiers. In 2014 the Sydney Ice Dogs finished 4th in the league, and after a tough season in 2015, they finished last.

2016 looks to be a great year for the Dogs, with fresh imports, passionate rookies, and veterans all coming together to create a dynamic team with their sights set on the Goodall Cup.

Well thats a wrap on the 2026 season.

We were unsure what this season would bring after a year off but to see the community that has been built that been nothing short of remarkable!

To our sponsors and community partners. Thank you for trusting us and allowing us to create a truly professional experience for our players. Without your support it would be a struggle to even take the ice and provide for our players.

A huge thank you to Macquarie Ice Rink who have given us one of the best barns to call home. The passion and dedication is amazing to see and we’re so grateful for all your help and professionalism throughout 2026.

To our families, partners and support, thank you for bearing with us. We know it’s a lot of time away across the season and we know it’s not always easy but we appreciate you all so so much!

To all the volunteers and staff, there is no Ice Dogs without you. To show up every week and help bring our game days to life, purely out of the love for the game and our club is amazing to see.

Finally to our fans. It’s been said a few times this season but you are the reason we take the ice, that we give up so much our time and effort to bring together Sydney’s most exciting night out. Whether it’s your first season or you’ve been with us since we started, thank you. The way you’ve shown up this year, the noise you’ve made, the signs you’ve created and the atmosphere make at every home and away game is simply incredible. We love you!

It’s been a year of ups and downs but that’s just who we are, Ice Dogs hockey has always been entertaining and always will be. Like our captain said, it either this or it’s not this and this year it certainly was this!

Not the way we wanted to end the season nor the way it feels it should have.
