ROUND 8 COACHES REPORT – SENIORS

If you weren’t at Canning Vale for the Southern Saints Carnival, you missed an absolute masterpiece of AFL Masters chaos, comedy, and occasional football. The Mighty Mandurah Makos rolled north to face the star‑studded Northern Warriors, who apparently thought “star‑studded” meant “let’s kick it at our forwards 400 times.”

From the first bounce, Simmo decided he was going to jump at every single ruck contest in Western Australia. He worked so hard the umpires were considering giving him frequent‑flyer points. His midfield crew — Kizza, Pips, Monkey, and Lloydy — ran enough kilometres to qualify for a fun run, repeatedly pumping the ball forward like they were trying to start a lawnmower.

Down back, the Makos defence was under siege. Shimma, Timmy, Brucey Blay, and Woody spent so much time repelling attacks they’re now officially classified as a coastal defence system.

Up forward, Dan Carter was causing absolute mayhem. He created chances, kicked goals, and generally behaved like a man who’d had three Red Bulls and a motivational speech. Dunny was getting some lace‑out delivery from his midfielders, Dunny clunked marks like he had magnets in his hands — unfortunately his kicking boots were set to “spray and pray.”

Pratty attacked the footy like it owed him money. After busting a gut up forward, he was sent to the backline to help the defenders, who by that stage were so tired they were considering applying for long‑service leave.

A massive thanks to Jonah, Big Kev, and Simon from the Southern Saints for pulling on the Makos jumper. They fit in beautifully, which is impressive considering the Makos’ game plan is mostly “run hard and hope for the best.”

The only downside of the day was Lloyd copping a shoulder injury late in the last quarter. He’ll be back — mostly because he refuses to miss the post‑game beers.
All in all the game was played in the true AFL Masters spirit, all players can be proud of their efforts. We now roll onto Bunbury for the next round of fixtures in a couple of weeks.

Cheers
BJ

On a glorious winters day the mighty makos supers boys took on the Canning Vale Saints who sport some fantastic facilities with a very short, wide ground. There were no passengers today and every mako contributed in their own way!
The lads started the 1st quarter how they finished the fortnight before in fine fashion, link up and hard ball gets. Jonny and Darchy added some nice forward flare and caught the Saints napping.
The second quarter our lads dropped off a bit as the Saints adjusted but we then managed to find our feet after the main break after some constructive criticism from Coach Homer. From there it was all over as the lads piled the sausage rolls on from some elite ball movement from the guts and the wings, Joel provided some tough CHF contests and it seemed like everyone was getting on the board. Having Bryce and Wes back in proved to be very handy inclusions, always helps when lunty has a day out in the ruck!
Too many to mention but its safe to say the Saints were put to the sword, and the link up, hunger and positive chatter amongst the lads proved too much for the opposition which reminded many of a well oiled machine!
Homer managed to slam one straight into the post right in front in the last, much to the enjoyment of nearly everyone at the ground.
Massive ups to Silver, Jimmy and Toddy for helping with coaching and team duties etc and a huge thank you to the master boys for filling in and adding flare.
Next round we take on the HPW Bears in good ol Bunno, get there be active and be apart of it!
Cheers 🤙🙏

🦈 ROUND 8 MATCH REPORT MASTERS – MAKOS vs CANNING VALE SAINTS 🦈

Round 8 saw the Mandurah Makos head to Clifton Reserve to take on the Canning Vale Saints in what turned out to be a ripping contest. It was hard, fair footy played exactly the way AFL Masters is meant to be played – plenty of laughs, plenty of respect, and a few sore bodies thrown in for good measure.

The Makos put on a real team performance up forward, finishing with 9 individual goal kickers, proving we don’t need one bloke doing all the work. We share the footy, we share the goals, and we even share the bruises!

There was one player who got a little greedy… Shane “Dunny” Dunn snuck away with two sausages, showing the Masters boys how it’s done.😂

Trying to pick the best players this week was nearly impossible because there simply weren’t any standouts – and that’s exactly what made the win so good. Every single Mako played their role, put their head over the footy, worked for their mates, and chipped in when it counted.

That’s the Makos way.

No passengers.
No superheroes.
Just 18 mates playing for each other.

Footy was the winner, the Saints were fantastic opponents, and the Makos rolled home with another great team performance.
