Breakthroughs from PRF 🏃‍♂️ 👇

- 12 months ago to the day lauryn watched me cross the line for the first time. 1 year later she runs the same event

- cruising through her first half marathon having showing incredible heart and determination to pick up that medal!

- Put in the work to come away with a personal best and beating last year’s time by over 15 minutes!

- Taking on her 4th event within her first year of running adding another medal to the collection and doubling her distance from last years running fest.

- Had an incredible preparation coming away with 1, 5, 10, 18km pbs. Not the start to the to the half marathon we hoped but showed what she’s made of to grit her teeth and cross the line!

- Smashing her second half marathon and making it look easy after having to pull out due to injury last year. They vapour flys indeed gave you minutes!

- Turning back the clock and taking home a 10k medal after telling me for years that “they days are gone now”. Never too late!

- Taking on his first ever running event and completing his furthest ever distance to date!

And if you’ve spotted it, no I didn’t p**s myself…

Should I even admit this? 🫣

I started working in gyms at 17, so needless to say I’ve said and done some pretty stupid stuff…

These three spring to mind:

1. 1 rep max testing with 40 year old office workers wanting to lose weight 🤦‍♂️

They cared more for losing 20kgs in weight, not adding 20kgs to a deadlift.

Also, probably not a good idea for a first timer in a gym.

2. All weights and no cardio… ever.

Imagine telling overweight clients that cardio isn’t needed for fat loss, when at 10:00pm every night their Apple Watch says 3,000 steps.

3. “Don’t worry it will just be muscle”

If scale weight and measurements aren’t going down and your weight is up. Yep muscle, all muscle.

Don’t get me wrong, your shape can change drastically with minimal movement on the scales but that doesn’t happen by accident.

They weren’t sticking to their plans and I didn’t want to make them feel bad.

I’ve definitely made some absolute howlers.

I’m not embarrassed, I’ve always had my clients best interest at heart.

I’ve always practiced from the information I learned but as a fresh PT and a young guy at the time… I didn’t know anywhere near as much as I do now.

Ahh well, we live and learn eh?
