📸 Show Off Your Best Underwater Shots!

Have you captured an underwater photo or video that deserves the spotlight? Now's your chance to share it in the Northern Beaches Underwater Photography Competition 2026.

This year's theme, "Where Protection Brings Life," celebrates the incredible biodiversity thriving within our local aquatic reserves. Whether you're a seasoned underwater photographer or just love taking a few snaps on your dives, there's a category for every skill level.

Your photos and videos must be captured in one of the Northern Beaches' five aquatic reserves, with finalists invited to the awards ceremony in November. Plus, you'll be in the running for the prestigious Valerie Taylor Award for Excellence and the People's Choice Award.

A change of scenery again today! With the northwest wind swinging around to the northeast along with the swell, we're leaving Shelly Beach to the surfers and heading over to Fairlight Beach, where conditions the last couple of days have been fin-tastic!

Yesterday served up around 6 metres visibility with plenty to keep divers smiling, including Port Jackson and wobbegong sharks, giant cuttlefish, hunting yellowtail kingfish, a gloomy octopus, and colourful mosaic starfish. You never know what will turn up next!

You might have noticed the surf has been up at Shelly Beach over the past couple of days, but don't let that fool you; harbourside recently has been teeming with life and is as clear as can be.

Yesterday our divers wrapped up the weekend with some fantastic diving across the harbour. Fairlight Beach delivered once again with Port Jackson sharks, a crested horn shark, wobbegong sharks, Australian giant and reaper cuttlefish, stripeys, clown doris nudibranchs and even a graceful eagle ray cruising by.

Over at Little Manly, our latest Rescue Divers, congratulations to Frances, Naomi, Cheryl, Mel and Clem, were busy mastering their new skills while sharing the water with the tiniest squadron of squid Michael has ever seen, cornetfish and a curious octopus.

Today Matt is kicking off the week in the pool with our latest PADI Open Water Course, while Jeevan is leading today's Double Guided Shore Dive at Fairlight Beach.

It’s Sunday Funday!

Unlike the rest of Manly, who seem to be enjoying a slow Sunday morning, we’re up and at it! Our sites of choice today are harbourside, with yesterday delivering 6 metres of visibility at Little Manly and 4 to 8 metres at Chowder Bay. We simply couldn't pass up the opportunity.

Yesterday at Cabbage Tree Bay, divers were treated to some brilliant encounters, including wobbegong sharks, Port Jackson sharks, Basil the turtle, a stars & stripes pufferfish, fiddler rays, and the huge bait ball of yellowtail scad that's been racing around the bay over the last few days. A big thanks to Strath Clarke for sharing his photos from yesterday. Today, Michael is back at Little Manly with our PADI Rescue Diver course, Jeevs is at Fairlight with our Divemasters in Training developing their guiding and rescue skills, Matt is running the PADI Enriched Air Diver course before taking a group through their Scuba Refresher, and Emily is leading today's Double Guided Shore Dive.

The sun is shining over Manly, the swell has eased, and the ocean is looking incredibly inviting. Visibility at Shelly Beach improved throughout yesterday, reaching around 6 metres, and with light south-westerly winds overnight, it’s shaping up to be a good day.

The marine life was putting on a show too. Yesterday's highlight? A full-blown wobbegong convention! More than 15 were spotted together gathered beneath the ledges, including a few very pregnant females. Maybe it was a mothers' meeting! Basil and Rosemary, our resident green turtles, have also been making regular appearances, alongside giant cuttlefish, eagle rays and more of our usual suspects.

It's another action-packed day for the Dive Centre Manly team. Michael is putting our Rescue Diver students through their paces, Jeevs is mentoring the next generation of dive professionals on the Divemaster course, while Emily and Milly are heading to Shelly Beach for today's Double Guided Shore Dives.
