Recently we had a large number of our youth sailors travel North to Yeppon for 2026 Zhik Youth Sail Queensland during the September school holidays.
The Club would like to spotlight a stella performance from two of our female sailors - Sarah and Sophie. They placed 3rd overall for their first time in an RS Feva. They navigated tricky conditions, some gear failures and even last minute repairs the morning of the last race.
Congratulations Sarah and Sophie - the club is very proud of your efforts, enthusiasm and skill.
In Sopie's own words.......
"Zhik youth week was an amazing week. This year I sailed in a rs feva with Sarah Spry. Since it was both of our first times in a feva, it took a little while to get used to, but once we did it was a great experience. The coaches for the training were supportive and they both passed on heaps of knowledge about the boat. During racing, the fleet was pretty tight, with most boats going out and finishing races. The first day of racing was a big day, with a storm cell coming through and pushing some strong winds, only allowing us to finish one race. The second and third day of racing were a bit calmer and we completed 3 races both days. Sarah and I finished 3rd overall with some good races and some not so good. I also wanted to shout out two other DPSS sailors Blake White and Felix Breton who finish 2nd in the 29ers."
