Manly Yacht Club was formed in 1950 as the Manly 14ft Skiff Club. In the late 50's a training boat called the Manly Junior was introduced. The 60's was a busy decade with the formulation of the Yachting Division and the Manly Graduate division. The club's name was subsequently changed to the Manly Yacht Club. Venue Hire

Manly Yacht Club Appoints Lucy Copeland as Head Coach for Junior and Youth Fleets

10th July 2026, Manly, NSW – Manly Yacht Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Lucy Copeland as Head Coach of its Junior and Youth Fleets for the 2026–27 season.

A highly accomplished sailor and coach, Lucy brings an outstanding combination of elite international sailing experience, coaching expertise and a passion for developing young athletes.

Lucy's sailing journey began in Manly Cove, where she learned to sail through the Manly 16-Foot Skiff Club's junior programs in Manly Juniors and Flying Elevens before progressing to the highest levels of the sport. She has been a member of the Australian Sailing Squad, represented Australia at World and European Championships, and was part of the Australian Olympic Training Squad across three Olympic campaigns.

Away from competition, Lucy has built an impressive coaching career, including her role as a sports coach at Queenwood School for Girls and her work with the Australian SailGP Team. She also holds a Bachelor of Exercise Physiology from the University of New South Wales, providing a strong foundation in athlete development and performance.

As Head Coach, Lucy will oversee both the coaching and administration of Manly Yacht Club's Junior and Youth Fleets. She will work closely with sailors, parents and volunteers to continue strengthening the Club's renowned junior sailing program while fostering a fun, inclusive and high-performance environment. Her responsibilities will also include coordinating communications with families through the Club's junior email and WhatsApp channels.

Manly Yacht Club has a proud history of producing skilled sailors through its junior development pathway. Building on this strong foundation, Lucy's appointment reflects the Club's ongoing commitment to providing exceptional coaching and creating opportunities for young sailors to develop their skills, confidence and lifelong enjoyment of the sport.

"We are thrilled to welcome Lucy to Manly Yacht Club," said Bruce Davis, long time board member and junior program co-ordinator.

"Her exceptional sailing credentials, coaching experience and enthusiasm for developing young sailors make her an outstanding appointment. We are confident she will inspire our junior and youth members while helping the Club continue its proud tradition of excellence in sailing."

Lucy will commence her role immediately as preparations begin for an exciting 2026–27 season.
