South Passage Sail Training Association of Queensland
We offer a range of opportunities for the young and young at heart to experience South Passage - Adventure under Sail.

We are a not-for-profit organisation, operated by our dedicated volunteers. South Passage - Adventure Under Sail. South Passage is a Tall Ship operated by the not-for-profit organisation, The Sail Training Association of Queensland (STAQ Inc.). South Passage is designed as a sail training ship with a focus on youth development. We provide "Adventure Under Sail" and she has taken over 50,000 students sailing over 30+ years. South Passage sails all year round. She is based in Manly, Queensland, but sails the eastern seaboard from Cairns to Sydney. South Passage also offers Day Sails and Voyages for the general public.

⛵🌊 ADVENTURE UNDER SAIL – LET THE FUN BEGIN! 🌊⛵

A big WELCOME ABOARD to our newest youth voyage crew from St John’s Woodlawn! 💙⚓

Our 4-day adventure has begun, sailing aboard the mighty South Passage from Wynnum Manly to Coffs Harbour! ⛵️🌊

And what a start we’ve had! 🐋😍 A special moment spotting a mother whale and her calf alongside the ship — nature putting on a spectacular show!

There’s been plenty happening on deck already:
⛵ Hoisting sails and learning to work as a team
🌬️ Tacking and feeling the power of the wind
🪢 Knot competition — who will take the crown?
💦 Swimming and cooling off in the beautiful blue water
😂 Plenty of laughs, new friendships and fun!

But it’s about so much more than sailing! 💪 Through every challenge, our young crew are building leadership, resilience, confidence and teamwork — skills they’ll carry well beyond their time at sea.

Four days, one tall ship, new challenges and memories to last a lifetime! 💙

🥳Congratulations to the Winners and all the fleet!!

South Passage was proud to be part of the action as the Spectator Ship for the St Helena Cup! ⛵

Our passengers and crew were treated to THE BEST VIEW of Sunday’s race — watching the excitement unfold from the water, surrounded by sails, sunshine and the beautiful Moreton Bay! 🌞🌊⛵

What a privilege to be part of such a fantastic event and share the thrill of the race from aboard our very own tallship! 💙

A huge THANK YOU to everyone involved for making it such a memorable day. We loved being part of the action and hope our passengers and crew enjoyed every minute as much as we did! 🙌⚓

Our new crew of keen young adventurers have stepped aboard South Passage for a 3-Day Youth Voyage on Moreton Bay! ⚓️🌞

It’s time to learn the ROPES — literally! 😉🪢
From hoisting sails and hauling lines to helming the ship, learning knots, working together and discovering what life at sea is really about. 💪⛵️

There’ll be challenges, plenty of laughs, new friendships and lots of opportunities to step outside the comfort zone. 🌊🤝😊

⛵️🌊 ADVENTURE UNDER SAIL – 5 DAY YOUTH VOYAGE 🌊⛵️

What better way to spend the school holidays than stepping away from everyday life, meeting new friends and learning a little more about life… under sail! 🌊💙

Over five days aboard South Passage Tallship, our youth crew got stuck in and learned the ropes — quite literally! 😉⚓️

🪢 Sweating lines
🧭 Learning navigation
⚓️ Mastering knots
⛵️ Helming the ship
🤝 Working together as a team
🌅 Learning responsibility, resilience and leadership

And then came COMMAND DAY! 🫡⛵️

The youth crew nominated their peers for Skipper, Navigator, Sailing Master and Watch Leaders — and then it was their turn to take command of South Passage and sail her home! 🌊💪

🏆 South Passage is a youth training vessel — but we’re not training young people for a life at sea.

We use the ship and the sea to prepare young people for LIFE. ❤️

The confidence to have a go.
The courage to lead.
The ability to listen and work as a team.
The resilience to keep going when things get tough.
And the friendships and memories that last long after the voyage ends. 🌟

This voyage is also part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award program, giving young people an incredible opportunity to challenge themselves, learn new skills and discover what they’re capable of. 🏅🌏
