Forecast bodes well for Sydney to Hobart record Amy Bainbridge reports on preparations for the 68th edition of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race.
Just had the final team briefing with tactics after the overnight training passage. Everyone is full of adrenaline for the start line on Boxing Day.
For those interested Mark will be doing a talking about the experience in the Sydney to Hobart at Middle Harbour Yacht Club from 8pm on Monday 19th March. (BYO BBQ from 6:30pm - sign in from an existing club member essential).

And we've crossed the finish line of the 2011 Sydney Hobart yacht race.

We can see the finish line - just made our final tack...
Tacking up the Derwent in these winds involves man handling our huge No.1 sail and posting it between the two forestays. A bit like trying to push a big parcel through a very small letter box.
.6 nautical miles to go. speed 3.8 knots close hauled. eta 20mins
Ok - 1Nm left to go, and we're moving at 2.8knots so we should finish within 30 minutes if the wind stays.
Oh no! Apparently Constitution Dock marina, in Hobart have kicked out all our waiting friends and family because it's dark now. All this way and our loved ones aren't allowed to greet us.
