Some of the best things built on the mats have nothing to do with martial arts.
With Father’s Day this weekend, we wanted to celebrate some of the dads who share their training with their kids at Ironfist. 🧑🧒🩷
There’s something pretty special about having a common interest that you genuinely enjoy together. Training gives dads and their kids something they can share, work towards and talk about - and over time, all those shared experiences can build an incredibly strong connection.
You get to see each other learn, struggle, improve and keep showing up. Sometimes Dad is the one helping and encouraging, and sometimes it’s the other way around.
There’s also a different kind of respect that grows when you’re both doing something that challenges you. You see the effort the other person puts in, celebrate each other’s progress and understand what it took to get there.
And while the training itself matters, so do all the little things around it - coming to the gym together, talking about the session afterwards, working towards goals and simply having something that you both genuinely enjoy.
Over the years, we’ve been lucky enough to see so many fathers and their kids share this, and it’s something we think is pretty special.
And maybe you’re reading this wishing you had something like this with your dad, your son or your daughter.
It’s easy to think you’ve missed that opportunity, especially as kids get older and life gets busier. But you haven’t.
There’s still time to find something you both enjoy, spend that time together and build that connection.
It doesn’t have to be martial arts, it just has to be something you share.
To all the Ironfist dads - Happy Father’s Day. We hope you have a great day with your families. 🩷🤗

Kids Muay Thai Development Day 🥊
We’re excited to be holding our Kids Muay Thai Development Day next Saturday 12th September starting from 1pm, open to our Junior and Senior Kids Ironfist members.
This will be an in-house development event, giving our kids the opportunity to experience a supervised and very controlled light spar with another Ironfist student while taking a familiar environment surrounded by their coaches and teammates.
All ages of kids who attend our classes and all experience levels are welcome to participate.
The purpose of the day is development, not winning or losing. It’s an opportunity for our kids to put their training into practice, experience some of the nerves and excitement that come with participating in a light spar, and continue developing their confidence, composure, technique and sportsmanship.
All matches will be fully supervised and guided by our coaches Dan, Isaac, and Nas, with students appropriately matched based on factors such as age, weight and experience.
It’s a great stepping stone for kids who may be interested in competing in the future, as well as a valuable experience for those who simply want to challenge themselves and continue developing their Muay Thai.
Spectator fees:
Adults: $15
Children (5 yrs and over) $5
Children under 5 free
To nominate your child, please provide their name, age and weight to Lianne or Ali at the front desk. 🙏🏼
Looking forward to a great afternoon! 🥳

Last week, Liam, Harley and Lucious competed at the Boxing QLD International Open Golden Gloves at Nissan Arena.
This year’s Golden Gloves was the biggest yet, with more than 900 competitors taking part - making it the largest boxing tournament in the Southern Hemisphere. It was an incredible opportunity and a valuable experience for all three boys to compete on such a big stage.
A special congratulations to Liam, who took home gold and became the 2026 Golden Gloves Champion in his division. 🥇
With around 16 competitors in his division, Liam fought across all three days of the tournament, eventually won with a third round TKO in the final.
We’re proud of all three boys for the way they conducted themselves in and out of the ring. They continue to learn from both their wins and their losses, and continue to strive to improve themselves in training and in competitions.
A huge thank you to Boxing QLD Boxing Queensland for putting together such a massive event. An incredible amount of work goes into making a tournament of this size possible.
And a big thank you to Masato, TJ and Eddie for giving up their time during the working week to be there for the boys, and for the time, effort and support you continue to give them throughout their training and competition preparation.
Congratulations Liam, Harley and Lucious! 🥊

Last weekend, Josie competed at Grappling Industries and took on some really tough matches on the mats.
She did exceptionally well, showing so much grit, resilience and courage throughout the competition. We are incredibly proud of her efforts, attitude and determination.
Josie has been training in our Kids BJJ classes for almost two years now with her brother, and it has been such a pleasure to watch her Jiu Jitsu journey and see how much she has grown - not only in her skills and confidence but also in the way she approaches challenges.
Competitions aren’t only about the result. They’re an excellent opportunity to test yourself, learn, build confidence and come back stronger. Josie showed exactly that.
There are many invaluable lessons that Jiu Jitsu teaches children - resilience through setbacks, confidence in themselves, discipline to keep showing up, and the courage to step outside their comfort zone. Lessons that carry with them in training and in everyday life.
We are so incredibly proud of you Josie, to see how far you’ve come and we can’t wait to see where your Jiu Jitsu journey takes you next 🥋👏🏼🤗

Last year Coach Shen travelled by himself to Japan to compete in the IBJJF Asia Open. This year he encouraged and motivated more of a team to make the trip, turning it into an unforgettable experience. 🇯🇵🥋
It takes a lot of dedication to travel overseas, step onto the mats in another country, and represent both Ironfist and Australia.
Great job to Shen, Nas, Scotty, Jay, Dilsher, Joey, and Sam! And a big thank you to Coach Shen for bringing the team together and supporting and coaching them through the journey. 🙏🏼
Here what Coach Shen has to say about the trip:
Asian Open 2026
This year on a promise of an adventure 6 team members went to Japan to compete at the Asian Open Bjj tournament 2026.
For some of the team they had never really worn the gi, and for others they had never owned a passport.
With a 7 week training camp & the promise of the best egg sandos for under $3; the team flew over and took home 2 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze. An amazing effort.
Some highlights from the trip included:
- Nas beating last years European Champ and loosing on advantages to the World Champ.
- Jay entering his first comp and it being the gi as well (the Nogi guy) and having a great run to win silver in Absolute.
- And Scotty taking home the gold. Prior to the comp Scott had a foot injury which prevented him from training for the 3 weeks in the lead up.
Shout out to the support crew who also came along.
