It was a weekend of great achievement and profound sadness for our club community, both on and off the field. Of the five teams scheduled to take the field, four were able to play, with all four recording impressive victories.
We extend our congratulations to our Under 10 Orange, who were crowned South Crocodile Division Champions with a win in the Grand Final. This is a fantastic achievement and one that our entire club community can be proud of. Our congratulations also go to the Over 40s, Under 15/17 Girls and Under 15/16 Boys Gold, who have each secured their places in Grand Finals next weekend. We wish all three teams the very best as they prepare for their respective Grand Finals, and acknowledge the commitment of the players, coaches, families and supporters who have contributed to their success.
Sadly, the weekend also brought devastating news to our club community. The Under 15/16 Boys Blue were preparing to take the field in their preliminary final when tragedy struck following the sudden passing of a club member experiencing a medical episode. This loss has deeply affected our entire club, particularly the young men who were present at the scene.
Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the family, the boys, coaches and all those affected by this tragic loss. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to those members of Brisbane Valley Soccer Club for their efforts and assistance on the day. We recognise that this is an incredibly difficult time for everyone involved, and we ask our club community to continue to show compassion, understanding and support.
The Under 15/16 Boys Blue preliminary final has now been rescheduled for Tuesday night at 7pm at Lowood. We are calling on our members, families and supporters to come together and support these young men as they return to the field. Please fill the sidelines, stand beside our boys and show them that they are surrounded by a strong and caring club community.
At times like this, the strength of a club is measured not only by what happens on the field, but by how we come together to support one another off it. The clubs executive and Southside Uniting and Living Water Uniting Churches are also on hand if anyone needs support or to talk to someone.
