Barkly Street Dragons & Moonee Valley Cricket Club took a moment during their match yesterday to remember Nigel Cowan Snr. who died earlier in the year. A respected cricket umpire and enthusiast across both clubs over many years. Players from both clubs spoke of how he had encouraged them in the game and life. Ash Nguyen-Cowan Ash Cowan 🐉🔥🏏💜💛🖤🤍

The top side were 0/47 off 5 but we fought back to take 10/99 over the next 27 overs. Their bowlers struck telling blows early but our tail held its nerve and we passed them 8 down! Angus Webb with 51* and 2/27 off 7 was Player of the Match.

We’re thrilled to announce the appointment of Jack Cook as Head Coach of the Barkly Street Uniting Cricket Club for the upcoming season.

Jack returns to Barkly Street after previously playing at the club and coaching our Under 15s across seasons 2023/24 and 2024/25. He brings strong cricket knowledge, leadership and a genuine connection to the people and culture that make this club special.

Here’s what Jack had to say about returning to the Dragons:

Having previously played for this club, I already know how special the people and culture are here. It’s an honour to return in this role and help lead the next chapter for the Dragons.
