SCTA May/June/July Athlete of the Month goes to Lauren Murphy for the time and patience that went into her Roth Ironman Campaign. From a large group that entered and was going to compete, she ended up being the sole Athlete that toed the line. There were a lot of highs and lows in this campaign, but we got her to the starting line in the best possible shape her body allowed us to do.

Unfortunately on race morning she woke up with a sore throat and was a little off, but Loz wanted to complete this iconic race and a bucket list for her. She still did a great job in trying conditions to finish in a time of 12:03:14

The Sunshine Coast Tri Academy / Venture Cycles / McDonald’s Sunshine Coast Athlete of the month for April goes to Hannah Po***ck for her performance at the Oceania Continental Cup doubling as the Australia Elite Sprint Champs on the Gold Coast at the Luke Harrop Memorial. After narrowly missing Australia Junior Auto Qualifier at Oceania Junior Champs where she finished 3rd, the mission for Auto Selection was top 5 Elite and First Junior.

A strong swim set up for a good group to ride in and she pushed with some strong riders to bridge to the front pack including fellow training partner Sienna Carter. Onto the run and Hannah set a strong back end to come away with that 5th place and Auto Qualifier. After just missing out the past 2 years, it was awesome to cement her spot.

Hannah backed up the following week at the Oceania Super Sprint Champs on the Gold Coast. In the heat she was 5th and had to go into the semi final which she won and cemented a spot in the Final. It was a very competitive final where she was 9th.

Congrats Hannah. Well deserved. Hannah is currently in France racing in the Valence Division 1 Team where she is gaining valuable racing experience against some of the best Ladies in the World.

National Schools Triathlon Championships Gold Coast

We had 2 juniors race with Jude Brimelow in Senior Males and Grace McNaught in Junior female for her first time at this level.

Grace lined up in the junior Girls and from a coaching perspective the experience she gained from the 4 days of racing showed with making the “A” Final being at the bottom of age category. Oceania Continental Sprint Triathlon Cup also doubling as the Australian Elite Sprint Champs for and .sienna08 lined up in their first ever Elite race as Juniors. It was a great experience for them both to see where they are at that next level at the / Luke Harrop Memorial

There was extra incentive for both these young ladies with a bet from Coach Toby Coote with a breakfast on the line. Let’s say Toby has to buy both ladies Breaky now.

Great swims from both saw them exit just behind the lead swim pack. Both rode strong in the second pack on the bike and by the 3rd lap they had caught the leading pack. Out onto the run and both ran strongly to move up a few positions.

An auto selection spot was on offer for the Australian Junior Team. Top 5 Elite and 1st Junior was the task.

Hannah had a great day out to get that spot. A Junior World Championship berth awaits. After the last 2 years of just missing selection it is a great reward for hard work and determination.
