Nambour Bowls Club is a great little club right here on the Sunshine Coast, with a proud history as one of the region’s oldest bowls clubs.

They’ve certainly been through a lot over the years, including devastating floods, but through hard work and determination they’ve rebuilt their clubhouse and continued to keep the club moving forward.

Now they need a little support from the bowls community.

They have some great days of bowls coming up and are looking for more teams to get involved.

If you can put a team together, please have a look at the attached flyer, get your names down and support a fellow Sunshine Coast bowls club.

These smaller clubs are an important part of our bowls community, and the best way we can support them is by turning up and playing.

Come on bowlers — let’s get behind Nambour!

GREAT RESULTS FOR CLUB MAROOCHY!

Congratulations to Club Maroochy members Nola and Steve Costabeber on some fantastic results at Club North Haven.

1st place on Friday
3rd place on Saturday

A terrific achievement in a strong field, with 192 bowlers competing across the sections.

🕊️ 𝐕𝐀𝐋𝐄 𝐏𝐇𝐈𝐋 ‘𝐊𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐒𝐘’ 𝐊𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐒 🕊️

Bowls Queensland and the Taylor Bowls Super Challenge are deeply saddened by the passing of Phil ‘Keatsy’ Keats, a much-loved member of the bowls community whose passion, generosity and dedication to the sport have left a lasting legacy across Queensland.

For more than three decades, Keatsy was a driving force behind the scenes, dedicating countless hours to creating opportunities for bowlers, supporting clubs and helping grow the game he loved.

Beginning his involvement in bowls in the early 1990s, Phil quickly became known for his remarkable ability to bring people together and secure sponsorship support. From his early contributions at Booval Bowls Club and Ipswich United Services to clubs across the Sunshine Coast and beyond, his efforts helped countless tournaments thrive and provided opportunities for bowlers to pursue their ambitions.

In 2000, Phil was instrumental in establishing the Taylor Bowls Super Challenge, a competition that became an important part of the Queensland bowls calendar. Serving on its Board for 12 years, his vision, determination and commitment helped shape the competition into what it is today.

Even when work took him to Western Australia, Keatsy’s connection to Queensland bowls never wavered. He continued to support clubs and players, often quietly helping others without seeking recognition or reward.

More recently, Phil’s passion for the sport saw him once again work alongside Taylor Bowls and Bowls Queensland to bring the Taylor Bowls State Challenge to life. His vision and tireless efforts were instrumental in establishing the competition, ensuring yet another generation of Queensland bowlers would benefit from his dedication.

But perhaps Phil’s greatest legacy isn’t measured in the competitions he helped create or the sponsorships he secured. It’s found in the friendships he built, the opportunities he gave others and the countless people whose lives were made better through his generosity.

Keatsy was more than a supporter of Queensland bowls. He was a champion of the sport, a loyal friend to many and someone who genuinely wanted to see others succeed.

On behalf of Bowls Queensland, the Taylor Bowls State Challenge and the wider Queensland bowls community, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Phil’s family, friends and all those fortunate enough to have known him.

Thank you, Keatsy, for everything you gave to our sport. Your contribution will never be forgotten, and your legacy will continue to live on through the game you loved.

Rest in peace, Keatsy. ❤️🕊️

BRONZE MEDAL!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of winning a Bronze Medal in the Singles at the 20th Australasian Police & Emergency Services Games.

It was certainly a long day on the greens. We started at 8:30am and finished at 7:30pm, with six games of bowls played throughout the day.

My only loss came by just one shot to Fongy from Ipswich United, who went on to win the Gold Medal. Congratulations mate — very well deserved.

After a huge day of competition, I was absolutely stoked to come away with the Bronze Medal. 🥉

The Games are about much more than medals — they’re about competition, mateship, catching up with old friends and meeting some great people along the way.

A fantastic day and one I’ll remember for a long time.

20th AUSTRALASIAN POLICE & EMERGENCY SERVICES GAMES

Not a bad effort for a Club Maroochy player!

I had the pleasure of representing and playing in the 20th Australasian Police & Emergency Services Games at Club Robina.

The best part? I only met my teammates that morning!

Debbie and Zach are both from Corrective Services, Lara is retired Corrective Services, and then there was me — Mark Payne from Club Maroochy.

We came together as a team, won 2 of our 3 games, and unfortunately just missed out on making the semi-finals.

But what a fantastic day we had!

That’s what these Games are all about — competition, mateship, plenty of laughs and meeting some great people along the way.

Sometimes the result isn’t the most important part. It’s the people you meet, the friendships you make and the memories you take home.

A fantastic day of bowls with Debbie, Zach and Lara, and one I’ll certainly remember.
