Our Under 10s season wrapped up on Saturday, with Tigers Black taking out the top spot!

It was a fantastic season filled with fun, great hockey and plenty of memorable moments from this wonderful age group.

A huge thank you to all the clubs, coaches, managers, families, umpires, supporters and all round wranglers who helped make the season possible.

Here’s a little look back at some of the fun from previous years as we get ready to do it all again this Sunday night.

It’s always such a great night having our hockey community together in the one room, celebrating the season and recognising the players, coaches, officials, volunteers and people who make our game what it is.

A strong weekend of TPL finals action saw the Easts men and women book their places directly in the Grand Final.

The Easts men defeated Tigers 4–1, with key strikers Jamie Hullick and Isaac Farmilo delivering two goals apiece. Kade Kimlin and Charlie Beath caused problems for Easts early, but their experience and persistent attacking pressure proved too much in the end.

The women’s contest was evenly matched through the first half before Easts took control to secure a 3–1 victory. The experience of Josie Hullick and Corina Murray in defence shut down the Tigers’ key attacking threats, while the Easts forwards went to work at the other end.

In the women’s elimination final, Commerce and Banks produced a tight contest, with just one goal separating the teams. Ash D'Souza made critical saves when Banks threw everything they had at Commerce in the last quarter including a cracking penalty corner shot by Meagan Phelan. In the end it was speedy youngster Leni Stephensen who scored the decisive goal to keep Commerce’s finals campaign alive.

The men’s elimination final between Waratahs and Banks also delivered a battle. Waratahs started with dominant performances from Callan Summers, Khaden Mallett and brothers Will and Clancy Needham, but Ayden Parkin proved a constant threat as Banks responded with an impressive collective performance. Goalkeeper Grayson Javins was a game changer, producing critical saves when his team needed him most.

Two Grand Final places are now confirmed, with the remaining spots to be decided in the preliminary finals. This weekends preliminary finals are set to be a showdown in both games as they fight to play Easts in the grand final. Good luck to all!!!

What a battle between the Crocs and Hawks in the U16 Super League girls’ preliminary final!

The Crocs struck early with two goals before the Hawks clawed their way back to level the game at 2–2 sending them to sudden death shootouts for the second week in a row! The Hawks held their nerve and will now take on the Barras in next week’s Grand Final, which is sure to be another epic contest.

After the game, we’ll celebrate all teams with presentations, pizza and an end of season party. Photos captured throughout the competition will also be available for players to take home.

The Hawks boys are through to the U16 Super League Grand Final after defeating the Crocs 2–1 in a fast and furious, end to end preliminary final.

They will now take on the Geckos next Friday, 11 September at 6.50pm. It’s set to be a great finish to the boys’ competition!

Two games. Two Grand Final spots. It all comes down to tomorrow night!

The Barras women and Geckos men are through to the big dance and await the winners of the Crocs v Hawks preliminary final showdowns tomorrow at MWT Hockey Centre.

If this U16 Super League season has taught us anything, it’s to expect the unexpected and stay until the end!

Men’s TPL Player of the Round | Lachlan Walter

When the pressure is on, Lachlan Walter stands tall. The Tigers goalkeeper makes critical saves in the moments that matter, keeping his team in the contest and giving them every chance to win. His presence and leadership from the back give those in front of him the confidence to take the game on.

A quiet achiever with game changing influence. Congratulations Lachie, bring on finals we can’t wait to see you in action!

Women’s TPL Player of the Round | Meagan Phelan

Meagan delivered a highly influential performance for Banks in the final round, combining playmaking ability and control through the midfield and remains a key penalty corner threat.

Her ability to create opportunities and deliver in important moments will be instrumental for Banks as they head into finals.

🏆 THE FINALS ARE HERE

After 15 rounds, the Territory Premier League Finals begin this weekend.

East Darwin Storm finished on top in both competitions and enter September defending the men’s and women’s premierships they won against Nightcliff Tigers last year.

The Storm men are chasing a third straight title, with reigning TPL Best and Fairest Isaac Farmilo again leading the way with 43 goals.

First up is Nightcliff.

The Tigers finished second in both competitions and get the first opportunity to derail the Storm, with Stingers goalkeeper Lachlan Walter set to play a key role at the back.

In the men’s elimination final, Callan Summers and Waratah face a Banks side featuring Ayden Parkin and Jayden Douma in a sudden-death battle to keep their season alive.

The women’s Semi Final brings a rematch of last year’s dramatic Easts-Tigers Grand Final, while Commerce and Banks meet on Sunday knowing there is no second chance.

Meghan Phelan has been a major threat from penalty corners for Banks, while Zita Varatharajan again shapes as one of Commerce’s biggest attacking weapons.

Commerce have done it before, ending an undefeated Easts season to claim the 2024 premiership. Can they make another run from outside the top two?

New Balance

Term 3 of the TigerTurf Stingers Academy wrapped up last night after another fantastic term.

A big thank you to lead coach Stephen Holt, specialist goalkeeping coach Paul Griffith, Ben Tilbrook and Zoe Nicols for their work with the group throughout the term.

Term 4 will commence on Monday 26 October. In the meantime, good luck to all our athletes heading into finals!
