Celebrating India’s 80th Independence Day

The 80th Independence Day of India will be celebrated with great pride and joy under the leadership of the Darwin Malayalee Association (DMA), in collaboration with Padippura Malayalam School.

As part of the official ceremony, DMA President Mr. Joe Jacob will hoist the Indian National Flag at the Darwin Language Centre on Sunday, 16 August, at 4:00 PM. The function will be presided over by DMA Vice President Mr. Monsi Thomas. Padippura Principal Mr. Rajesh Nair will administer the pledge.

This special occasion is a time to honour the sacrifices of the nation’s freedom fighters, remember the rich history of India’s independence, and celebrate the unity, culture, and spirit of the Indian community. The event will also serve as an opportunity to bring together families, friends, and well-wishers in a shared sense of patriotism and pride.

We warmly invite all DMA members, Padippura Malayalam School families, and well-wishers to join us in commemorating this proud and meaningful occasion and to make the celebration memorable with your presence.

The DMA Executive Committee has decided to outsource the catering service (Thattukada) for our upcoming Onam Celebration Evening, scheduled to be held on Saturday, 05 September 2026.

In this regard, the Executive Committee is pleased to invite Expressions of Interest (EOI) from capable and interested parties who can undertake the catering requirements for the event.

The selected caterer will be responsible for preparing and supplying dinner for the Onam ‘Kalasandhya’ in accordance with the requirements and expectations of the Association. Further information regarding the menu, expected number of attendees, service arrangements, catering requirements, and other relevant conditions will be provided to interested parties upon receipt of their EOI.

Those interested in providing the catering service are requested to express their interest by replying to this email or by contacting any of the DMA Executive Committee members listed below.

Please note that the closing date for submitting Expressions of Interest is Thursday, 20 August 2026.

The Executive Committee will review the Expressions of Interest received and communicate further with the interested parties regarding the next steps and detailed requirements.
