Worldwide on average, drowning is one of the leading causes of death globally for children and young people aged 1 to 24 years.
Every year, globally, an estimated 236,000 people drown.
In Australia, hundreds of families lose loved ones to drowning every year.
World Drowning Prevention Day highlights the ways drowning can be prevented.
On 25th July we invite Queenslanders to take action to prevent drowning:
Enrol in swimming lessons
Supervise children
Check your pool fence and gate
Avoid alcohol and drugs around water
Wear a lifejacket
Know the conditions
Become a pool lifeguard
Learn CPR
Become a swim teacher
Learn how to spot a rip
Keep watch. Stay safe.

We encourage all Queenslanders to celebrate World Drowning Prevention Day β Saturday 25 July by keeping water safety top of mind.
Take care to supervise children in or around water.
The most common place for children in Australia to drown is in dams, creeks and rivers.
Keep watch. Stay safe.
