Cycle day 1 vibes

Watching the afternoon light change from the comfort and warmth of my bed. Heat pack, toast and tea prepared by my partner 🥰

After a red eye flight home from Bali and hanging out all the washing in the glorious sunshine it was time to slow down and listen to my bleeding body.

Are you aware of the rhythyms of your cycles, even if you aren't bleeding/don't bleed?

We are cyclical beings and we are nature, not separate from it. Just like the moon, the sun and the seasons we cycle. We ebb and we flow. It can be interesting to see how we feel in different phases of our menstrual cycle or the lunar cycle.

Instead of pushing myself to 'do' today, I allowed myself to just 'be' and to receive the suggestion from my partner to chill in bed with toast and tea. It's been a journey learning to slow down and to receive but it's a practice I'm glad to be continuing to cultivate.

This winter energy of the first phase/menstrual phase of the menstrual cycle is the same energy as the fourth trimester in postpartum. We are designed to slow down and receive after birth.

How do you go listening to the ebb and the flow of your body? How do you go asking for what you need in these different phases?

Ps. Anyone else take a bite of each toast to see which one you want to finish with based on tastiness? 🙋🏼‍♀️🙄😁

Happy IDAHOBIT – International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia or otherwise known as Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination. IDAHOBIT is the anniversary of May 17, 1990, when the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases.

IDAHOBIT began in 2005, then known as IDAHO (International Day Against Homophobia) less than 10 years after Tasmania, where I grew up was the last Australian state to decriminalise homosexuality. Let’s just think about that for a second. In my lifetime, up until I was 14 homosexuality was illegal in Tasmania and until 1992 it was considered a mental illness. Let that sink in for a second.

We’ve come a long way but we have a long way to go.

According to www.idahobit.org.au, 68% of LGBTQIA+ employees are not out to everyone at work, 2 in 3 LGBTQIA+ youth experience abuse due to their identity, 35% of LGBTQIA+ Australians have experienced verbal abuse in the past 12 months. Not to mention the hate and violence trans folk are subjected to on a daily basis.

Today is a day to be reminded that everyday is a day for standing up and fighting against LGBTQIA+ discrimination. Some ways you can do this is by:

Use pronouns and gender neutral language: Normalise using pronouns and asking for someone’s pronouns. Don’t assume someone’s pronouns based on their appearance or name. This is especially important in the birth space!! Just because someone is pregnant does not mean they identify as a woman or use she/her pronouns. It might feel uncomfortable if you’re not used to it but it can be the difference of someone feeling safe and welcome or perpetuate a feeling of being unsafe and invisible.

No, using gender neutral language does not erase women. This is a TERF concept that actually goes against the values of equity of feminism. You don’t have to use all gender neutral language but can use terms such as ‘women/birthing people’ or ‘breast/chest feeding’. In the yoga space there can be assumptions made that all women or femme presenting people have a womb or yoni.

This is not always a happy day for everyone.

May mothers be celebrated for who they are not the sacrifices they makes on this day.

Sending love to all those who may find today difficult. I see you 💜

I'm excited to be offering my next prenatal yoga series after taking a break last year and it's starting in just 2 weeks!

I would love to share this space with you - A place to be held in a small group and witnessed as you navigate this unfolding pregnancy journey. We will use breath, movement, sound, meditation and journalling to explore your changing body, to connect with yourself, your baby and others and to build strength and trust in your body.

These classes will not only help prepare you for labour but also equip you with tools for supporting your nervous system in pregnancy, birth and your parenting journey.

Every BODY welcome and all stages of pregnancy however it is particularly aimed at 2nd and 3rd trimesters. I tend to encourage people in their 1st trimester to rest.

To find out more DM me or email [email protected]

Goodbye summer. Hello Autumn.

As we celebrate not only the autumn equinox today but also the new moon, what are taking forward into this new season?

What have you been travelling with since the Summer solstice?

What do you need to be able to transition from the expansiveness and long days of summer to the increasing dark of autumn that beckons us to begin the journey within?

Let's pause and take stock on this day of equal light and equal dark. I feel that so often the reflection for Autumn is, "what are you shedding" and "what is no longer serving you?" Often with a focus on changing for the better and a sense of getting rid of what it is we are shedding, but before we do this let's honour what was, the gifts it offered us, the lessons it taught us. Let us give thanks and be grateful even if it no longer serves us or we wish to grow or change.

This is the power of ritual and acknowledging these shifts around us and within.

May you find a moment to pause in this space in between, where you are no longer who you were and are yet to know who you will be, much like the late stages of pregnancy.

Now ONLINE!!

While I would love to be able to sit in circle with you all in person and facilitate connections and community these times call for online offerings. On the plus side I'm so excited you can join me for a cosy hour and a half on a Sunday afternoon to slow down and connect with yourself and your baby no matter how far away you live 💖 ...

I'm offering a 6 week prenatal yoga series suited to all levels of experience and all stages of pregnancy (however I do encourage those in their first trimester to focus on rest).

I facilitate a warm and nurturing space for you to nourish yourself, and your changing body. A space to slow down and take a breath, to explore, to learn and to connect with your baby.

Each of the six weeks will draw on a theme that supports you to tune in to your intuition and your body's innate wisdom. Sessions will incorporate a beautiful balance of movement, meditation and breath to support you in pregnancy, birth and beyond.

As an added bonus I draw on my knowledge as a doula to provide you with extra resources to help prepare for birth and parenthood.

For more information about the series or my offerings check out the link to my website in my bio above. 👆🏽

Are you pregnant or do you know someone who is?

It's been a while....but here I am and I've got something exciting to share. I've been gestating this baby for a very long time and it's time to take the leap and introduce it to the world. I now have a website for my yoga and doula business (link in my bio). For now this account will be less coeliac stuff and more birth, pregnancy, ritual, yoga oriented. If you're here for the juicy birth stuff you may occasionally see some coeliac related content as it's also a big part of my life. For now here's a bit of an introduction for those who don't know me or want to know me a little better.

Hi, I'm Angela! Lover of wild, untamed places within and all around us. Seeker of adventure. Yoga teacher, birth doula and women's circle facilitator.

I am dedicated to creating trauma-aware and accessible spaces for all women, womb-holders and birthing people. I'm also wildly passionate about (re)connecting with the wisdom of our bodies.

I dream of a world where every woman and birthing person knows their innate wisdom and power. A world where you know how to receive and use the gifts of birth's rite of passage into mother/parenthood.

I dream that every new mother/parent is surrounded by a loving village bringing food and support so that you can honour the sacred fourth trimester, when you can rest, bond with your baby, and be deeply nourished.

I dream that all women and parents are able to receive these gifts, to be loved and served deeply into their parenting journey.

If you'd like to know more about me and my offerings check out the link to my website in my bio.

Nothing like a fourth lockdown here in Melbourne to give me a kick up the butt to finally offer a women's circle.

I know there are many people out there with all sorts of feelings rising, be it related to lockdown or the global pandemic, the looming climate crisis or life in general, or you may even be thriving right now. Or perhaps, like me you are experiencing a confusing cocktail of all of the above, sprinkled with moments of nature-induced awe and dance-induced joy.

Regardless, there is power in being witnessed and held in whatever is arising for you, especially during times like these.
There is so much seeking outside of ourselves in this world especially as women, yet all we need to know is within us. This is a space for you to slow down, connect with others and your own innate wisdom. It is a place to express your feelings free from opinion, advice or commentary and it is here we may find the answers we seek. As Rumi says, "The universe is not outside of you. Look inside yourself, everything that you want you already are."

Come and join me online tomorrow night to be witnessed and held and to witness and hold.

💫 Monday 7th June
💫 7:30pm to approximately 8:30pm (AEST)
💫 Online (PM me for details).
💫 All women welcome.

I look forward to seeing you there 💜
