Basketball - wonderful effort by our Intermediate boys basketball team who, despite being very bottom age with mainly Yr 9 boys, won the Division basketball competition. The pool games saw us defeat Alice Miller, Sunbury Downs, Kurunjang and the crunch game against Sunbury where we won by one point after a disputed last second goal by Sunbury that was disallowed and called as an offensive foul. The final against Bacchus Marsh also went down to the last few seconds. We led by 3 pts and with 10 secs left, Bacchus dropped in a 3 pointer to tie the game (or so they thought) - the 3 point claim was reduced to 2 pts as the shooter had his toes on the 3 pt line - a correct call, seen by a few with a clear vision, and luckily one of them was the referee. Now to the Region event next term.

Massive congratulations to Academy Movement schools, Lara Secondary College on taking out the boys, and winning the girls Rugby Victoria Shields after multiple weeks of competition. Really great to see such well rounded students on and off the field and so much collaboration and support from all of our schools throughout the tournament. A massive effort from all of our teachers and staff who put in the hours behind the scenes and on the day.

Congrats to our ex student Trinity Skenderis who won the Ballarat League Best and Fairest last night. Trinity has been playing VFL for the last 5 years with the Western Bulldogs and came back to local footy this year to enjoy herself and fall in love with the game again. Congrats Trinny.

Big effort today by our Yr 8 boys basketball team. In the pool games we def Heathdale, Gisborne, Alice Miller and Sunbury Downs. The final was a repeat of 2025 final v Sunbury College. The game went down to the wire. The boys gambled to control the ball for the last 20 secs as they were 1 pt down and they went for the last shot to win. With 4 secs left the shot went up, a floater shot, it hit the ring, rebounded up but did not drop. We lost to Sunbury by the 1 point - a replica of the 2025 result - 1 point both years.

Congratulations to Tyson Kilmartin and Fletcher Kilmartin on their selection in the AFL multicultural talent showcase programs on the Gold Coast this week.
An extra special congratulations to Tyson, who has been named Captain, and Fletcher, who has been named Vice Captain an outstanding recognition of their leadership, character and talent.

Congrats to Yr 9 twins Fletcher and Tyson Kilmartin who have been selected in the Victorian boys AFL Flying Boomerangs and World Team programs 👏
The programs will meet on the Gold Coast this week and play in two talent showcase games on Wednesday 15 July.
The Flying Boomerangs features U15 boys who are from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background, whilst the World Team features U15 boys from culturally diverse backgrounds, many who meet the AFL Next Generation Academy criteria.

Congratulations to our Rugby u/18 girls team. Last Tuesday we won the NRL 9'S tackle State title defeating Graigieburn SC 12-8.

Sport this week
- Cross Country - tough day for all, Levi B in yr8 was our best performer finishing 22nd.
- AFL Intermediate boys - after a blistering 1st quarter that could have given us an unassailable lead, Gisborne slowly wore us down due to their much bigger size and consistency to defeat us by 8 points.
- Rugby -Melb Storm Trophy (non rugby league academy schools) - our u/18yrs girls lost the semi finals today to miss qualifying for the final for thr 1st time in 4 years.

It is a very proud moment seeing this young man earn his selection in the Australian U20 squad— a true reflection of attitude, positive behaviours, and belief aligning with the process.
This is what it looks like when talent meets consistency, humility, and a commitment to getting better every day.
Huge shoutout to Matt McMullen for the dedication he brings not only to his own craft, but to his students and the Rugby Academy program at Melton Secondary College. The standard he sets continues building something special. Trust the process.
