❤️💜 PARKER SMITH MEDALLIST 💜❤️

The Parker Smith Medal is the players award voted on by all opens and 18s players, to crown the players player from all teams.

In one of the most thrilling counts of all time, Esther Ferguson was voted the Parker Smith Medallist, and what a season she has had. A formidable force at either end of the court, Esther polled 3 votes in multiple games this year and never looked back. She has an ability to uplift all players around her, and the ceiling of her talent hasn’t yet been reached. We can’t wait to keep watching Esther grow and thrive and there is definitely a fight amongst the Opens teams as to who will nab her in the next few years. Congrats Esther, what a season!

❤️💜 LIFE MEMBER 💜❤️

A member of Melville Lakers will be award with Life Membership following a minimum of 10 years’ service by either coaching, umpiring, being a committee member or other service to the club where the person has gone above and beyond and represented Melville Lakers and its values to the highest standard.

Dani can only be described as passionate, driven and above all, she is all in. She joined Lakers in 2015 and it only took one season before she decided she wanted to give back to the club. After taking on the role of secretary by her second season and spending a few years in the role, she moved into coaching.

Her coaching career saw her coach the top team for the age group, with a strong advocacy to see the players in that team thrive. She put effort into running multiple trainings per week, researching drills and always thinking about how to strengthen the team both competitively and culturally.

But she didn’t stop there. Dani has also played 110 games for Lakers and won a couple of premierships along the way. This year, despite her own daughter not playing at the club. She coached a senior team and remained on the committee as secretary once again.

Dani has a growth mindset and strives for excellence as evidenced with achieving her Immediate coaching accreditation in 2026.

We are so lucky to have Dani at Lakers, and can’t wait for her to be a part of our future, in the same way she has been an excellent part of our present and past.

Georgia has been a Laker for a long time, and has played with the club since she was a junior whippersnapper figuring out hot to put on a bib.

Since those early days she has gone on to play over 250 games with the club, now being our fifth on the all-time games played list. She is a totally dependable player that will give any position a crack. You will see her taking her one footed shot or stepping in to deny opposition goals with her big tree scary arms.

She has not just been a player - in all that time, she has given back by being a coach and umpire. She regularly steps up and covers other umpiring duties and has coached a variety of teams over the years and volunteered at club events. She has also been a member of the committee, most recently in the role of Coaching Coordinator.

We couldn’t imagine Lakers without you, congrats Georgia!!

❤️💜 SHARYN SMITH COACH OF THE YEAR AWARD 💜❤️

We don’t think we’ve ever seen so many nominations for the same person for this award, but Brooke took it by a landslide this year. After saying at last years Parker Smith might that she would coach in 2026, Brooke has excelled in her coaching this year. She is a ray of light that has kept the girls spirit alive all season, and all parents report seeing a massive different in the girls game this year due to Brooke’s passionate keen eye and one on one coaching. She has put so much effort into training sessions and always brings a positive attitude to the games she is an exceptional role model to junior members of the club and has shown unwavering enthusiasm. Welcome back to coaching Brooke, definitely not your last season doing so!

❤️💜 BRENDA WILLIAMSON (SENIOR CLUB PERSON) AWARD 💜❤️

This award is awarded to a Senior club person who goes above and beyond for the club and shows great service.

If you’re looking for someone who adores the game of netball, look no further than Carly. Since joining Lakers, Carly has embedded herself in the culture of purple, red and white. She has been on the committee as the fundraising coordinator for the last few seasons and has worked diligently on securing funding and sponsorship opportunities for the club, as well as organising massively successful cake stalls. She took up assistant coaching this year and her love of the game has left a lasting impact on her teams.

Despite suffering a season ending injury in Round 14, Carly’s enthusiasm and support never wavered and she was down at the courts every week until the end of the season supporting every one else. Carly embodies the spirit of Brenda Williamson in her enthusiasm and commitment to Lakers and we’re very lucky to have a gem like her in our mix. Congrats Carly!

❤️💜 SENIOR SPECTATOR OF THE YEAR 💜❤️

Annette has been around Lakers for over 15 years and we barely think she’s missed a game in that team. She is always helping out the team by scoring or timing, and definitely always cheering. Even when her own daughter wasn’t playing, Annette was still there provide support and encouragement, and that is exactly what we want at Lakers. Congrats Annette!

❤️💜 SENIOR UMPIRE OF THE YEAR AWARD 💜❤️

The Senior Umpire of the Year Award is awarded to an outstanding umpire who actively umpires for Lakers, is viewed as an outstanding umpire and is an example to others with regard to club spirit, loyalty and sportsmanship.

Abby has been a fantastic umpire since she picked up a whistle but has really stepped it up this year. In addition to mentoring junior umpires, doing her own rosters and umpiring Opens, she is part of the FNA Academy and was also picked in the Fever in Time program this year. Abby has put in a mountain of work this year and we can’t wait to see where her umpiring journey takes her. Congrats Abby!
