ππ€ XCR ROUND 3 - XC8 WRAP-UP
The longest road trip of the season saw a small but spirited Mentone team head north to Bendigo for what is currently considered the toughest challenge on the XCR calendar. A course featuring vineyards, deep gullies, uneven terrain and plenty of climbing ensured there was nowhere to hide, while alternating sunshine and rain added another layer of challenge. It was cross country in its purest form.
It was great to see such strong team spirit on show again with everyone having given their absolute all by the finish line. The team rose to the occasion.

π XCR Round 2, Jells park relays - Wrap-up!
π It was once again time for the ever-popular Jells Park Relays, with the XCR season rolling on just six days after the fast racing at Lakeside. On a particularly warm late-Autumn afternoon, 36 Mentone athletes across 11 teams took on the twists and turns of Jells Park, continuing the strong momentum to start the season.
ππ€ Strong team spirit was on full display, with plenty of encouragement given all the way around the course and Mentone colours never far away. It was exciting to welcome new member, Oliver Shaw to the team.
Some of the highlights were:
π₯ 1st for our menβs U14 team (Sam Challis, Alby Phipps and Asher Buzza)
π₯ 2nd for our menβs 40+ team (Billy Strachan, Adam Barker and Seunggil Hong)

ππΌ Louise Shaw, who continues to fly the flag for our open women this year, running 30:16.
π₯ In the juniors we saw some lightning-quick runs.
π₯Lily Lambert recorded the 3rd quickest U18 leg of the day with her time of 11:01
π₯Sam Challis was the 3rd quickest in the U14s with his time of 10:22.
π₯ We also had several other top-10 performances in age groups across the day, including Alby Phipps (5th in U14s), Asher Buzza (6th in U14s), Lachlan Fulton (8th in U20s) and Eliza Ayres (9th in U16s).
It was a great day overall for the team, especially for some of our juniors and menβs 40+ team. We look forward to the next challenge ahead, which is always quite an adventure. Next round we travel to Bendigo for the short course cross country. Hopefully we can build on the momentum from this round with another strong showing there.
