What a performance from our young guns! Composed, determined and absolutely deserving of the win. 💙🤍

🏑 B GRADE — 3–2 WIN
A cracking contest right to the final whistle! The team dug deep, fought for every ball and came away GRAND FINAL WINNERS! 🏆

A dominant performance to finish the day in style! Clinical, composed and full of Burra spirit. 🔥

🏑 Burra represented at the EDHA Awards Night! 🏆

A fantastic night celebrating the people who make hockey in our Association so great — and Burra was certainly well represented! 💙🤍

🏆 Masters CW Coaches Award – Brett de Lacy
⭐ EDHA Smoker Junior Encouragement Award – Steph Gregory

We also had several Burra players polling strongly across all grades, which is a fantastic reflection of the quality and depth we have across our teams.

Although… there is a slight downside to having teams packed full of great players — we run the risk of stealing votes from each other! 😂

A huge congratulations to our award winners, our high pollers and every single Burra player who pulled on the shirt this season. These awards are a great recognition of the talent, commitment and effort across our club. 💙🤍

Now for the most important part of the season with our Juniors, B Grade, and Women players all proud and excited to wear the blue & white in the Grand Finals next week. Let’s go BHC! 💙🤍

GRAND FINAL, HERE COME BURRA JUNIORS! 🏆💙

WE’RE IN THE GRAND FINAL! 🔥

A ripping 6–0 prelim final win against Nukarni — but that scoreline certainly doesn’t tell the whole story.

Nukarni were super strong in defence and created plenty of opportunities up front, with Kyle pulling off some absolute super saves to keep their score at nil. 🧤👏

Our biggest focus all season has been share the ball — trust your teammates — and let the goals come, and today we saw exactly that with a fantastic spread of goalscorers.

⚡ 1st Quarter: Ava got us off the mark before Layla found the back of the net.

🧱 2nd Quarter: Nukarni dug deep and kept us scoreless, giving us plenty to think about and a few nervous moments in defence!

💪 3rd Quarter: We regrouped, settled down and Pat and Hayley both popped up with great deflections to extend the lead.

🔥 4th Quarter: Ella joined the scoresheet, followed by Pat grabbing his second — both coming from deflections off short corners.

Six goals. Five different goalscorers. Plenty of passing. Plenty of teamwork. Exactly what we preach. 🙌

🏑 SEMI FINAL SATURDAY — AND PRAISE BE TO GRACE GARBIN 🙌😂

Well… that was a day.

B GRADE v Narembeen — 2-0 WIN 🏆
Goals: Pat O’Neill x2

Pat decided one goal wasn’t enough and simply did it twice. 🤌

A brilliant 2-0 win sees B Grade straight through to the GRAND FINAL in two weeks! No unnecessary stress next week, no dramatic calculations, no “what if we…” — just sit back, recover and prepare for the big one. 😎

WOMEN v Narembeen — 3-1 WIN 🏆
Goals: Claudia Shepherd, Lauren Cope & Grace Garbin

Another massive performance from the women, booking their spot straight into the GRAND FINAL in two weeks!

And honestly… we have only one person to thank.

🙌 PRAISE BE TO OUR NEW HOCKEY GOD, GRACE GARBIN. 🙌

She has guided us through the semi finals. She has delivered goals. 😂

We simply follow.

A heartbreaking finish for the men, going down 3-2 and ending their finals campaign.

Plenty of fight, plenty of effort and an absolute cracking season from the boys. Unfortunately, finals hockey can be cruel. Well done to everyone who pulled on the Burra shirt this season — you’ve done the club proud. 💙

Our Juniors finished 1st and now take on 4th-placed Nukarni next week in the play-off for a spot in the GRAND FINAL!

So while B Grade and Women can put their feet up and bask in the glow of our newly appointed hockey deity… 😂

Dearest gentle reader,

Did you truly suppose I was in hibernation with this frigid cold? You are mistaken, yet again. I confess to you, I do adore the cold- though perhaps not the hail.

This season does draw to twilight. The flowers are not in full bloom yet- the sun is yet to caress our skins with a spring glow and the days must draw out.
In regards to objects out, pray tell, where was the women's goalie this weekend? Chasing butterflies in the wind? One might have believed they misplaced their Lorgnettes or perhaps their wits. Briefly as it was, it got this authors' heart pounding.
A respectable effort from Lady Sharp, who bamboozled us all. Don a feather in thy cap.

What a fascinating weekend indeed. We saw not one but many a lady filling in for the gentlemen's team. A great deed to ensure we could all have a match on the field, indeed. Please, ma'am- my tea is still brewing. I beg you will take a chair... It is Newton's law that does state an object in motion remains so unless acted on by an outside force. The beauty of Science. An unfortunate situation for a bull of a man like lord Shoobridge of Doodlakine estate, with the agility of said beast. Following the inevitable- it seems a few choice words were expressed, which this author does not fathom putting to ink.

With the finals looming this weekend mother nature has graced us with pleasant weather and fair skies. There is sure to be many spectators with babes in tow, descending on the sidelines this weekend.

The ton gathers next weekend for a merriment of food and courtly behaviour. The nectar will, indeed, flow as the music graces ones ears. Be sure to secure an invite to the revelry.

Upon reflection of my tales this season a query arises. For, there is also a decision to be made with some loose lips threatening my anonymity- potentially foiling my identity. This author must ponder whether to rest my column or pass this baton. In due course, you shall know.
