🏀 MEET THE COACH | Spencer Alone Snr 🩵🖤

For Spencer Alone Snr, coaching is a natural continuation of a lifelong love of basketball.

After years spent playing and following the game, coaching has given Spencer the opportunity to stay connected to the sport he loves while sharing his knowledge and experiences with the next generation.

As the U20 Boys 2 coach, Spencer is passionate about developing more than just basketball ability. He wants his players to build confidence, resilience, discipline and the belief that they can achieve their goals through hard work and commitment.

One of the most rewarding parts of coaching for Spencer is watching that growth unfold throughout a season. Seeing players develop, friendships strengthen and a team's love for the game grow is what makes coaching special.

His advice to young players is simple:

"Nothing is ever given to you."

Be coachable. Work hard. Stay committed. Never stop looking for ways to improve.

For Spencer, being part of Binar means being part of an organisation that shares his belief in the power of basketball and community.

"Through basketball, we can build confidence, develop leadership skills, create pathways, and bring people together in a positive and supportive environment."

We're proud to have Spencer bringing his experience, passion and commitment to our U20 Boys 2 team and grateful for the time he gives to developing the next generation.

A HISTORIC DAY FOR BINAR MAALI 🩵🖤🏀

12 of our Binar Maali WABL teams took to the court in finals today, and what a day it was.

9 teams have fought their way through to next week’s finals! 🙌

There were some unbelievable performances, including a few huge upsets, with every team playing with incredible heart, determination and pride.

Just as importantly, we loved seeing our teams getting around each other and showing the true spirit of Binar Maali. 🩵🖤

Our three teams who fell short today were all involved in incredibly tight games, and while we can’t win them all, we can always turn up, give everything we’ve got and play with heart.

And that’s exactly what our mob did today.

Proud doesn’t quite cover it.

Congratulations to all 12 teams on an incredible day, and to our 9 teams heading into next week’s finals. We’ll be right behind you! 🩵🖤🏀

🏀 BINAR BALLERS 🏀 Meet J'Quarn Shoveller — U18 Boys 1

Straight outta the Kimberley and bringing the energy every time he steps on the court 💥 Known for his explosive dunks and fast-paced game, J'Quarn creates opportunities for his teammates and never plays at half speed.

But it's not just about the highlight reel. J'Quarn carries his identity and where he comes from onto every court he plays on — and says Binar has become more than a club, it's family.

His journey from the Kimberley hasn't been easy, but with his Dad pushing him to reach his potential and the Binar community behind him, he's only getting started.

His advice to the next generation: "If there's an opportunity, take it. Be a sponge, soak up all the information and learn as much as you can."

🏀 Coach Spotlight: Andrew Vlahov, U18 Boys 1

Perth Wildcat. Olympian. Binar Chairperson. You could fill this caption with résumé — instead, we asked him the same kind of questions we ask every coach in this series, and he answered like every other coach in this series: humble, generous with his time, and all about the players in front of him.

"There are no shortcuts to greatness" — words he lives by, on and off the court.

We're incredibly grateful to have Andrew not only helping lead Binar, but giving his time to coach and mentor the next generation of Binar athletes.

A huge well done to every player, coach, team manager, volunteer and supporter who has been part of this incredible first season. We’re so proud of what our Binar community has achieved together.

Meet Ja'Melia Hill from our U21 Girls team.

Basketball has been part of Ja'Melia's life for the past 10 years, with her family encouraging her to get involved in sport and supporting her every step of the way.

For Ja'Melia, being part of Binar is about supporting one another, making sure everyone feels included, and creating great memories together. And with basketball being a big part of her family, she gets to share the game with the people closest to her.

Basketball has taught her plenty along the way, including teamwork, determination and resilience.

Her advice to the younger girls coming through Binar?

"Always believe in yourself, work hard and have fun. You never know how far basketball can take you."

And who doesn't get hype to a bit of The Wiggles before a game!? 😂🎶
