🌟 ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT | MACKENZIE 🌟

What an incredible athlete — talk about multi-talented! 👏

Mackenzie joined the Sunraysia Academy of Sport in 2026 through our Netball Program and has continued training with SAS throughout winter as part of our Individual Athlete Support Program💪

And her achievements speak for themselves! 🔥

🏐 NETBALL
Mackenzie represented Sunraysia at both the State Titles and Association Championships, with her team winning their division at the Association Championships! 🏆

Her performances also caught the eye of Netball Victoria, with Mackenzie talent identified and invited to trial for the Victorian U17 State Team in November.

Incredible for a 14-year-old! 👏

🏉 FOOTBALL
Playing locally for Wentworth, Mackenzie spent most of the season competing in the 17 & Under division, despite still being eligible for 14 & Under💫

She finished equal third in the league vote count for the 17 & Under competition — an incredible achievement considering she missed the final four to five rounds through injury.

Mackenzie then played in BOTH the Sunraysia 14 & Under and 17 & Under Grand Finals, with both Wentworth teams claiming premierships! 🏆🏆

To top it off, Mackenzie was awarded Best on Ground in the 14 & Under Grand Final! ⭐

Mackenzie also represented Sunraysia in football and competed in three trial matches in Swan Hill, where her performances earned her an invitation to trial with the Bendigo Pioneers.

While she was too young to be selected in the Pioneers squad for the V/Line Cup this season, we’re sure this won’t be the last opportunity that comes her way!

And if netball and football weren’t enough, Mackenzie is also excelling in school athletics, progressing through to the next level in:

What a fantastic morning with Maddy from On Track Athletic Performance! 🏃💨

Last weekend, Maddy travelled to Swan Hill to deliver an outstanding sprinting clinic for our Sunraysia Academy of Sport – Swan Hill athletes.

Our athletes had the opportunity to learn all things sprinting and running, with Maddy sharing her expertise on sprint mechanics, technique, acceleration, drills, and training principles. It was an engaging session filled with practical tips and valuable knowledge that our athletes can take back into their training.

A huge thank you to Maddy for making the trip to Swan Hill and investing in the development of our athletes. We really appreciate your time, knowledge and enthusiasm, and we're grateful to have had you as part of our program.

This clinic and the entire Swan Hill Winter Athletics program would not be possible without the amazing support of Swan Hill Little Athletics. We can’t thank you enough for jumping in to support this program🙏

SAS is incredibly proud to congratulate Paddy Connelly and Oscar Bitmead, our inaugural Scholarship Holders!

Both athletes showed outstanding preparation, attention to detail and professionalism throughout their applications and interviews. We’re excited to support them as they pursue their sporting goals⭐️

🏉 PADDY CONNELLY - already an outstanding 2026, some achievements include:

🔹 Representing Vic Country in a victory over Vic Metro
🔹 Selection for Bendigo Pioneers - U16
🔹 Selection for Bendigo Pioneers - U18
🔹 Multiple senior games for Red Cliffs Football Club

Paddy has an exciting future ahead, and we look forward to supporting his next stage💫

🏃 OSCAR BITMEAD - despite injury interrupting early 2026, Oscar showed great talent throughout a strong 2025.

Achievements include:

🔹 Qualifying for the 2026 Australian Junior Athletics Championships (injury prevented competition)
🔹 Representing South Australia at the 2025 Australian Little Athletics Championships
🔹 Silver medal in the 4 x 100m relay, setting a new SA state-best record
🔹 Sixth in the Boys’ 200m at the Australian Little Athletics Championships

Now fully fit, Oscar is set for an exciting summer season. We look forward to supporting him🌟

As part of their early scholarship support, Paddy and Oscar will complete performance testing and an injury and load-management session, thanks to the incredible team at Revive Health Mildura

Our golf athletes just wrapped up a high performance golf day in Melbourne 🏌️‍♂️⛳

Being part of the academy means more than just training sessions back home — it’s chances like this to travel, compete, and play courses our athletes wouldn’t normally get to experience. Different fairways, different conditions, different pressure — that’s exactly the kind of exposure that builds better, more adaptable golfers.

Days like this are where the real growth happens. New courses sharpen decision-making, new environments build composure, and being around other high performing athletes lifts the standard everyone trains to. This is what being part of the academy is all about — real opportunities, real development, on and off the course.
